Trouble TTC

Just having a really awful day...

Sorry, this is going to be a big update... A few weeks back, my husband and I found our dream home.  We are/were so excited to start this new chapter in our lives and decided that we'd take a break for a few weeks in trying since it is a lot of work, a big expense and we were under a lot of stress and pressure which might not even make everything worthwhile. I've been off the board for a few weeks, or even months because I was starting to feel overwhelmed when it came to my fertility.
On the fertility front... (all during the house craziness...) My doc wouldn't order our SA because I had been dx PCOS and she said we had to get me under control first.  I was starting to feel like I wasn't getting the answers I needed so I got a copy of my bloodwork and nothing was out of balance... When I asked the doctor, she said my LH and FH were normal levels, but that in relation to each other, they had missed the "normal" point by a nominal .01.  She said in combination with the fact that my cycle has been abnormal, she can dx me PCOS.  I demanded an ultrasound (she pushed Clomid before getting the full picture, which upset me...)  Ultrasound came back great-- no visible red flags... When we talked about my ovulation tracking (I thought I've been ovulating due to OPKs, BBT and CM), she told me there's no way I've been ovulating or I would be having my period naturally.  No ifs, ands or buts.  She told me "when you are ready to get pregnant, let me know and we'll start you on Clomid." I've been going to see an acupuncturist who pushed me to get copies of paperwork and tipped me off that things probably weren't being approached the way that they should have been... Thank God for him!  Decided to change doctors, but first I pushed and got DH in to do a SA and we just got the results... abnormal morphology.  I know it isn't the worst thing we could have heard, but it is still a downer...
And the icing on the cake?  We just got a call that we're not closing on our house today because the seller neglected a piece of paperwork that normally takes 3 weeks to obtain.  We're getting kicked out of our current home on Wednesday and with Memorial Day weekend, everything gets pushed back even further.
I wish we could afford (both time wise and money wise) to just get out of town this weekend.  Two bad phone calls in the course of an hour?  Time to start the waterworks...
*SIGGY WARNING*

Re: Just having a really awful day...

  • I am so sorry. Sometimes it seems like every thing happens at once! You will get through this. You have already proven it by getting through everything so far. By this time in a few weeks or by this time in June you will be in a much better situation!!

    Me: 32  DH: 33  Married: March 2004

    July 2006: started TTC
2008: HSG (normal), couple rounds of clomid through gyno
2008 - 2010: dragging my feet out of fear and procrastination
October 2010: first consultation with RE, dx PCOS and fibroids (DH slightly low count/motility)
Oct. 2010 - Dec. 2012:  In DENIAL! avoided the issue because I was scared of surgery
January 2013: returned to RE, fibroids grew significantly
February 2013: second HSG, fibroids pushed on tubes which blocked them somewhat
March 2013: MRI to determine what type of surgery may be necessary

July 29, 2013: fibroids (5) removed via robotic laparascopy
August 2013 - Nov 2013 : benched due to recent surgery

    IUI #1, Dec. 24, 2013, BFN
    IUI #2, Jan. 25, 2014, BFN
    IUI #3, Feb. 25, 2014  BFN
IUI #4 canceled due to lack of response to letrozole
    IUI #4.1 April 28, 2014, BFN

May 16, 2014: wtf consult, start prepping for IVF in June and add injects for one last IUI in the meantime
IUI #5 started letrozole and bravelle but canceled after HSG led to new diagnosis

May 21, 2014: third HSG, tubes blocked, one at the beginning, one hydrosalpinx??
June 11, 2014: consult, approved to move on to IVF because the hydro is not completely blocked therefore allowing fluid to move through slowly rather than backwards
    IVF #1 August 8, 2014 - 3dt of 2 embryos, BFN
September 17, 2014 - 4th HSG, the right tube is very patent (open!!) dye went straight through this time. Weird!
    October 2, 2014 - started metformin treatment
    November 14, 2014 - blood work, brought A1C down from 5.8 to 5.5

November 26, 2014 - RE finally back from vaca and reviewed my chart, no more IVFs for rest of calendar year
December 1, 2014 - Right after Thanksgiving, I called a new clinic and got in right away! Plan for IVF
    December 17, 2014 - ER! 29 retrieved (!!), 16 mature, all 16 fertilized (ICSI)

    IVF #2 December 20, 2014 - 3dt of 3 embryos, BFN

We are done with treatment unsuccessfully. :(

  • I'm so so sorry that everything has snowballed like this all at once! Try and stay strong with the house situation and I am glad that you are looking into other resources for the IF stuff, sometimes you need a fresh face to get the answers you need. Good luck!

Trying to have baby #1 since April 2013

DH SA March,May 2014 - Low motility and shape issues. On vitamins per RE to help

Me testing April 3, 2014 - FSH and LH good, HSG showed blocked right tube

April 29, 2014 - First RE appt., right tube needs to be removed and possibly left also if

it's bad too. RE suggests going straight to IVF

June 4, 2014 - LAP/HSC and unexpected endo. removed but tubes got to stay!

June 13, 2014 - Post-Op appointment. We decide where to go next since main issue

is MFI influenced. Trying naturally until decision... Repeat SA  in September. Aiming for IUI #1 November 2014.

What is the doctor's specialty? Is she an OB or an RE? If an OB, she might be really good at what she was trained to do (deal with already pregnant women and deliver babies), but wouldn't necessarily have the training needed to deal with infertility. I agree, no RE worth their salt would put off a SA to deal with PCOS, as any good RE would know that something like 30% of infertility cases involve both female and male factors. Is you new doctor an RE? If not, I highly recommend finding one. OBs are not trained to deal with IF, REs are. If she was an RE (yikes!) glad you found a new one.
