I am considering taking domperidone, but I am wondering if there are drawbacks to doing so. I've heard that after you stop taking it, your supply plummets, and most women take it long term. My LO is only 4 months, so I am concerned about taking a drug for that long (I aim to breastfeed past a year). My supply is adequate, but not wonderful. My LO's weight is coming along slowly and he is already below the 1st percentile, and there has been talk of supplementing. I add in extra pump sessions whenever I can, but I work full time and have a 3-year-old (and a workaholic husband), so it has been tough to add any more than two a day (in addition to my 3 work pump sessions and 6ish nursing sessions at home). My LO has also been through a ton (reflux, multiple tongue tie revisions). His transfer is pretty good, but he never goes the extra mile nursing like my first born did to increase supply. He tends to be all business and when the milk isn't flowing, he kind of just stops nursing. I'm at the point where I can continue to make it work this way, but it has required so much effort. If domperidone would make it a touch easier, I may be open to taking it. I just don't want to cause any problems. Any input from women who have taken this, much appreciated. My midwife already prescribed some for me a while back, but I never took it because I didn't think I really needed to do so.
Re: domperidone - when to take and are there drawbacks?
I started taking it at 4 m pp.
For me there haven't been any noticable drawbacks.
Jmo but if you are able to make it work now, I would do so without the dom.
