Depends what you're using it for... we use ours just for family gatherings type stuff. We have a Nikon Coolpix L820. I like it, however the only downside is it only uses double A batteries (4 of them) and the batteries don't last as long as I feel like they should.
I have a Nikon Coolpix S3600 (I'm pretty sure that's the model) and I love it. I ended up catching it on sale at Target two summers ago and paid around $150, so it's not a super pricey camera but it's really nice. I don't do a lot of artsy photography but it's got a 10x zoom and it makes my photos look like I know how to take artsy photos.
If it's if any help, here are some shots from my Rebel. Please note that I am in no way a skilled photographer! This camera was gifted to us and I like to take fun pictures for my friends, but truly the camera does all the work. I should mention mine is an older model from 2010 but I still love it. And it came with 2 different lenses. It's easy to use and ive gotten some pretty great shots of friends bridal showers and new babies (and way too many of my dog) considering I don't know what I'm doing :-)
I have to support the others in their Canon love. We have one and it is pretty great in most lighting situations.
I wish either my husband or I would take the time to actually read the manual that came with the camera as I am sure we would be taking even better shots...but that will probably not happen anytime in the near future!
We have had several Canon cameras and have always been happy with them. DH refuses to buy anything else, so we have Canon for our point and shoot, DSLR, and video camera.

You can check cameras out online at B&H. They have a catalog you can go online or well they have a store in NYC. Great store!!!
