Dizziness

Had to leave work today and go see my obgyn due to low BP.. (80/50) I felt dizzy and "crampy" all day. So stressful! Everything is ok with the little guy his heartbeat was good. She checked my cervix and it was closed (thank God) also did some labs so hopefully that will all be normal. I just feel so overwhelmed today. Hoping tomorrow is better.

Re: Dizziness

  • Hopefully they checked your iron. Check if your prenatals have iron. Mine didn't wtf!!! Turns out my iron was low and causing the dizziness.

I always have low BP as well but usually 100/60 not as low as 80/50. They are checking for anemia. I'm used to getting up and feeling dizzy on a normal basis but yesterday was just different. The cramping I was having had me so so nervous but everything seemed good with my little guy.
  • I've had mild dizziness once in awhile, but last night while I was cooking dinner, I started to feel light-headed. It was quickly getting worse. I started to get so hot and diaphoretic, my husband could see me sweating. I also had nausea and felt like I could have fainted. I was able to sit down and my husband was helpful. It was scary.

I didn't know what was happening. At first I thought I ate something bad or had some kind of horrible infection. I knew that wasn't the case when the worst of the symptoms and the fever were over about 5 minutes later. I'm sure my BP dropped too low, didn't have enough blood flowing to my brain, so the body was trying hard to fix it. I read a lot last night how pregnant women can be prone to presyncope or syncope (fainting), because of all the changes to their vascular system.

I'm worried about it happening when I'm alone or driving. I know now that I need to stop sooner what ever I'm doing and sit with head between my knees or lay down if I can. We just moved into a new home, and just got the old apartment cleaned up this past week. Glad that's over.

I know stress can aggravate it. My brother (50) had a double heart attack last week, and his heart stopped from an arrhythmia a couple days ago. They put a defibrillator in him yesterday, so hopefully he'll recover enough to go home soon. He will still need to work hard with his rehab. Also one of my brother in laws ended up in the hospital with food poisoning from eating bad sushi. He has diabetes so that always complicates things.

So, it hasn't been the easiest couple of weeks. I thought I was doing fine, but now I know I need to manage my stress better and take more breaks.

Has anyone else gone through this or know anyone who has dealt with this? I have an OB appt next week. I'm curious to know how other women are handling this.

Thank you for your time! This is my first time posting on the bump.

  • @MyLovePrayer‌ - What you describe sounds very similar to what happens to me when I am getting hypoglycemic. I'm had hypoglycemic attacks for years, but can usually feel them coming on and prevent it from progressing by drinking some juice followed by eating something with protein like peanut butter/cheese crackers. I carry juice and those crackers with me everywhere. Since getting pregnant, I've noticed that sometimes I start to feel sick even though I've eaten recently. I respond the same way I always have and it works, so I have to think that my pregnant body is even worse at regulating my sugars than I already was!

I'm not sure if that it's what is happening to you or not, so definitely talk to your ob about it!

Also sounds like you have a lot of stress lately. Try to take it easy!

  • Hope you feel better!
  • Thank you! I thought about that also. Over 10 years ago, I had a few episodes of hypoglycemia, that made me feel pretty sick. I've had small dips throughout the years, usually if out doing errands for too long or working too long without a food/rest break. Those episodes didn't quite feel the same as what happened last night, but I also wasn't pregnant way back when. I was snacking on food while I was cooking, so that makes me think it's wasn't blood sugar either. I'm taking my time with everything now, and just doing the best I can.

I can't wait to discuss it at my appt next week. Hopefully they can help pinpoint what happened.
