Spoon feeding.

I know I have one of the older baby's on the board (01/07) BUT today I had a bag of breast milk I had pulled out because I planned on doing a Zumba class and I didn't make it, ANYWAYS I have started putting LO in the high chair at meal times so he is part of the meal- if he is not nursing- so I thought well what the hell and spoon feed him the milk. He did Waaaaay better than I thought! He actually held his mouth open, turned his head to the spoon! I was shocked, it's just crazy how fast these little ones are growing so fast :)

Anyone else try this? I'm sure some of you have already started solids, we will eventually, but I feel more confident now that he did so well w milk from the spoon :)

Re: Spoon feeding.

  • I spoon feed my baby her meds.. Does that count?

  • Another thing that came to mind was LO's who refuse the bottle or breast, this maybe another option- more time consuming but gets the job done.
  • We haven't, but it must have been cute to see. Like a baby birdy

We all had sat down and he just started sucking on his fingers, so not ravenous yet, so I figured Wth let try it:)
  • Guess its getting to be time to buy a high chair then. That went fast!

  • One of my friend's husbands had to use a medicine dropper to feed their LO breastmilk when she was away, she would never take a bottle.

Crazy how the shit that drove us bananas can almost come out of our mouths, but doesn't ;) usually

This! As I started reading this thread, my first thought was, "hmm..guess it's time to buy us a high chair." Not sure what I was waiting for, I guess I feel like she won't need one for so long. Oh wait, she just turned 4 months old yesterday! Oy!
  • No one feel bad about not having a high chair! I actually never took the portable one off that is strapped to the chair because my DD just out grew it :) We always eat our meals together at the table so it was/is an easy thing to do.

This dude learned how to eat a spoonful of applesauce (w/ enzyme pellets mixed in) at 6 weeks. I was impressed a lil guy could do that. I expected disaster.

    Is that safe?
I'm assuming the benefits outweigh the risk considering health :)

My eye doctor was tiny and cute yesterday and wanted to ask when she was due and then I realized that I hated when people asked me that so I just smiled at it stupidly. Maybe it would have been better to say something.

Eh, we prob won't use the high chair until 7ish months so we have time. DS1 started table foods on my lap at 6m, and DS2 prob will, too.

  • I set up our little FP space saver high chair at our table so DD2 can be a part of dinner time. She LOVES it. It reclines a little so she can lean back if she gets tired of holding her chunky head up. Also if you don't already have a high chair I highly recommend this one as it won't take over your whole kitchen!

  • PSA: if you are looking at getting a regular high chair, kids.woot.com has one today on sale. I already have one, but always check the site (it's a daily deal site)--and it just so happened that's what's on there today.

When my daughter was 36 hr old, I started pumping. The RNs had me spoon feed the colostrum to her. She actually took it! She smacked her mouth and got it down. My mom was laughing when she saw it. She couldn't believe it. So, it can definitely work as an option.
Same here, I was shocked to see him take something from a spoon.  Haven't tried yet on my own though.

  • I thought the average age to start solids was 6 months.  Am I remembering wrong???  I was hoping to EBF for quite a while longer...

  • The G.I. specialist I went to a couple weeks ago also said I could start solids at 4 months. Im not sure if solids she meant purees or actual baby led weaning type things (Banana, avocado, etc.)

Every baby is different, I just gave BM from the spoon. Some pedis say 4, 6 or even 12months - I feel is to late

The guideline is now exclusively BM/F until 6m. Some Drs still go by the old-school 4-6m.

We'll wait until 6m, and do BLW.

@KatyBriggs‌ no worries ;) and ya I think it means he will do just fine.... I will be keeping this a secret from my mil thou! Any excuse to get him or push what she wants.
I can hear it now, "I can watch him over night now (she hasn't even really babysat him) right? Since he is on track to start solids?" Ummmm NO!
