Thursday's Spamaloo!

I will start today......This morning is crappy because I woke up to the sound of a hard rain. This makes my morning routine 10x worse because I have 3 dogs who refuse to go to the bathroom in the rain. I am about to get soaked and then have to go to a drafty office. UGH. Other than that things are GREAT! I couldn't be happier with my job. LO slept pretty well last night for her. Only up 1x so I feel more "refreshed" I may only need two cups of coffee vs 3. My oldest kids are out of school for the summer. They do have summer school June 2-20 but other than that. SAVE me LOL. Everyone have a great day.

DS is participating in a language study at Yale. Today is the second part of the study and the woman is coming to the house. So I'm feeding DD now and then it's a mad dash to clean up the sea of toys that take over our living room. Cleaning with DS around is like trying to sweep in a tornado :(

I think its awesome that the teachers seem more desperate than the kids for summer vacation.
Maybe this is my UO but that makes me cringe a bit.

I have a 4 day weekend to look forward to. I just need to get through this day. I have lots of work to take care of and finals to grade, so I should really stop procrastinating. I can't wait to have 4 days off with LO! :D And I am wishing all the military women and men a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!!

Don't get me wrong - I love teaching, I love my students. I would happily teach on a year-round schedule. However, that's not how our district operates and the kids get a bit off-task this time of year, and it isn't as though there are any worthwhile disciplinary consequences. It is stressful and slightly crazy-making. The break from the 4:30 wake up call certainly doesn't hurt, either.

@jennabirdthebride I think you have zero explaining to do! Teachers have one of THE hardest jobs out there. I think getting excited for summer break is perfectly acceptable! It's that time of year, no need to hide the fact that you're equally as excited as the kids to have some time off.

I didnt mean my original post as a bad thing! I meant it like you deserve the break! I could never be a teacher i respect what you do every day.

After re reading it i could have used any other word besides desperate and it wouldnt have sounded as negative.

My dad was in the process of paying off a contract to buy another insurance agency. The woman he bought it from a dementia got really bad shortly after my dad died so I've been dealing with her partner. He has done nothing but cause me trouble simply for the fact that I am a woman. He tried to sell the business that we were paying for out from under us with a month left of our sales season.

I just wrote the last check to payoff the contract. I will do a happy dance in my car once this envelope goes in the mailbox. I might just go have a beer with my lunch in celebration.

------------------------------- Nope. It's time. We all need to rejuvenate, reflect, and regroup so we can be our best for our next group of students. Teachers can't have off days or lazy days. We have to be "on" 100% of the time. It's mentally taxing and requires a break. Without a break, there would be a much higher burn-out rate than there already is.
I think my cringing is incredibly influenced by one or two facebook teacher "friends" and the things  they post on a daily basis about teaching in general and their students.  But perhaps they are just already burnt out.

  • Both girls are sleeping, oh what to do. Also we are supposed to be going to a picnic in the park but it is currently raining. So no picnic, I think we will bake cupcakes for dd#1 to take to strong start for her bday (I will have a 3 yo on Saturday-i feel a little weepy).

    More pregnancy spam:

I think I've started feeling LO every so often (18w measuring 19ish), but it feels like a tickle.  Not sure if that's strange or not.
Not strange. I felt that right around 18 weeks while I was at the grocery store and I literally stopped in my tracks and dropped the fruit I was carrying, trying to figure out if that was the baby.
  • So the fact that it feels like tickling isn't weird?  Wooo! :)

  • DS was sick Monday night, and now mil and fil are sick. I don't handle throw up well so of course I'm not feeling well either. I also started antibiotics for a UTI and they are making me sick too. Ugh I wish I had somewhere else to stay tonight. We are also suppose to go camping this weekend, I hope we still are going. I want this week to be over already. :((

So... off the subject of teaching...

I am still nursing/pumping... And I am gaining weight like no one's business... I'm hungry ALL. THE. TIME.  Anytime I start to diet... my supply plummets.  I have tried low carb and calorie restriction (along the guidelines of nursing mothers)... and I just can't.  I typically don't even eat very bad... I love veggies and protein, not a person who craves junk food or sweets.  I am very frustrated.  I have tried to increase my activity.. but really... WHEN is there time to work out when you are working full time, taking care of the baby, and your husband works late most nights?!
I'm right there with you, except I crave all of the sweets. If I don't allow myself something sweet after dinner I binge before I go to bed. It's horrible. I had more clothes that fit when I left the hospital than I do now :( I'm so hungryyyy!
  • I still can not win 2048! I feel so stupid.
  • Does anyone know if in CA you can be an employee and a contractor for the same company?
    @Heaven802002

I think it has to do with your employment agreement with the company and corporate policies regarding contractors. My company does not use employees as contractors; it's against company policy.  It's also incredibly confusing.  Are you going to be contracting project hours and billing the same department for which you work?

  • No grants or tax payer funding. I would be contracting for a diff department. My reg job is in the finance dept. the contracting would be project based.
I would talk to HR about it... The decision may be influenced by how you are paid (salary vs hourly) and what "band" you fall into.

I literally JUST x-ed that tab before I clicked into this thread. lol. I can't beat it either. Stupid f-ing game.
My husband wins it like every other time he plays.  He says there is a stradegy to it that you should always swipe to the right or down.  I do that and still can't win!

Thank you for thinking of me!!!  I've only had Whole Foods brand hummus lately.  That's a relief.

Right?!? I think that's been the big joke I learned with pregnancy. I don't remember deli meat ever being recalled or having a listeria issue, but cantaloupe, spinach and now hummus? Umm...

  • @rachel2011‌, I live very far away from family also and miss a ton of things. I have also driven 10 hours straight once with a 2 year old. I'm also about to drive 12 hours with a 4 year old and LO. I'm breaking it up into two 6 hour days though. It will be tough but it is possible to drive that far. I would take 2 or more days to drive it. I wouldn't blame you for not going though. If it's that important to you, I say go for it! Give yourself plenty of time to drive it. I know you just moved so you probably don't know anyone, but if you can sleep during the day and drive at night, that way LO will be sleeping most of the way.
  • LO JUST fell asleep for the night. I have no clue why she decided it would be a good idea to stay awake til midnight.
