This question is for all of you STM+. In March H and I have our 5 yr anniversary and wanted to go to some type of all inclusive or beach vacation. LO will be about 7 months old...would we be crazy to consider taking him so young? We love traveling and would like to begin this with him.

We took DD to the beach at 10 weeks. It was a much different trip than we're used to but it was still great.

Just be prepared to be flexible!

We took DD on a cruise at 8 months and again at 18 months. We had a fabulous time. Yes it was different traveling with her and we had to change up a few things we would normally do. But so worth it. We love traveling. Plus her passport is so cute with her tiny baby photo. :)

We did a beach vacation with my family when DD was 6.5 months old. It was fun! I thought it was a great place to take an infant since there was a lot of relaxing and not a lot of set plans.

At that age, your baby will probably be crawling/starting to crawl. That can make sitting on a blanket in the sand rough since baby will continuously be trying to crawl off and you may not want them crawling through the sand and eating it. But you can work around it. Also at that age, baby will probably be taking 2-3 naps per day. Luckily beach vacations are pretty flexible and you can plan around nap times to fit in walks, meals, etc.
  • I'm a FTM, but friends of ours just came down to spend the week at the beach with their 9-month-old...granted, he was a preemie due to pre-e (born at 28 weeks)...but they said it was MUCH easier to spend time at the pool than at the beach. They still had a great time, but weren't able to spend as much time on the beach as they had anticipated.

  • probably easier around that age than 9 mos+ when they're decidedly mobile. toddler vacations are the least vacationy thing ever!

I think given flexible expectations, wouldn't be totally insane to do it!

If you have one who can sleep anywhere, you're golden. If you have one like mine was who required a dark quiet room for naps, then someone has to be prepared to go back to the room for those. Either way I think all inclusive would totally be fine and I'm a very uptight traveler with kids. :)

  • We're going on a trip to Hawaii in February with my family and we can't wait!!! LO won't be crawling yet and lots of family to watch him/her so I can snorkel and play in the ocean! I know we'll have to adapt from our usual vacationing style but still, cannot wait!!!
  • I love all of the positive insight! I was debating bringing my mom along and paying her way to have a babysitter but just cant decide if its worth it or not yet. I think were def going to do a vaca though!

  • We took DD to Myrtle Beach (12 hour car ride) when she was 6 months old. She did great. We took her hiking when she 8 months old, also did great. We took her to Florida at 9 months old (2.5 hr plane ride) and we had a blast. We also took her to Florida again when she was like 14 months old and she had a great time. We modified our trips a bit but really enjoyed them. We try to travel as much as possible with her. We hope to be able to still travel when DS gets here too.
