Having tooth pulled today :( UPDATE IN COMMENTS

edited May 2014 in November 2014 Moms
Granted...I'm an admitted wuss. I cry when I have period cramps. My mom laughs at me and the thought of me going through labor. She also says she doesn't think she can stand being in the room with me because she doesn't want to see me in pain :/

I've had 3 wisdom teeth pulled so I know how it works. But I've never been pregnant for them. Nor was I on Lovenox shots for any of them. Oral surgeon had to order a special anesthetic because I'm pregnant. Hematologist told me to just skip today's blood thinner shot. OB said I can take Tylenol with codeine for pain. I know the pain I went through with the 3 wisdom teeth. I'm worried that this special anesthetic isn't going to work and I'm going to feel every...single...second...of this tooth being ripped out of my mouth. I'm worried about the bleeding issue due to being on the blood thinners...will it EVER stop bleeding? I usually take Vicodin afterwards and not only am I worried the Tylenol with codeine won't work, I REALLY don't want to take it because of this LO growing inside of me. I want to be tough for him/her.

Not sure what my point is here. I guess to just see if anyone has ever had experience with this as well as maybe getting some T&Ps for today. I know it might seem silly but I'm a wreck over here!

  • Good luck! I actually want to year all about how this went for you and what drugs you took...
I am going to the dentist today. I haven't had any dental work done without full IV sedation in like a decade. I won't even have my teeth cleaned without the gas. I'm super freaked and nervous, just trying to stay calm....

I broke my crown two weeks ago and then a filling fell out of my tooth yesterday. Today I'm finding out what my treatment options are.

I hope everything goes smoothly for you and you have a speedy recovery! Come back and tell us how it went!

  • T&P coming your way.

I am not a good dental patient either.  Either gas me up or don't touch me, LOL.

  • Thanks everyone!

@nonoemily The note that my OB gave me to bring to my dentist stated can only have Lidocaine without epinephrine for anesthesia and the Tylenol #3 (with codeine) for pain after. I'm pretty sure we're definitely not allowed the gas but POSSIBLY you'd be able to be put to sleep.

I'll definitely come back and let you know :)

  • I am so sorry you are having to deal with this.   I would take the Tylenol if I were you.  I have only ever had one tooth pulled so far in my life,  and it hurt like hell.

I might have to get another one pulled here soon........so I may be right behind you with this tooth pulling thing.   I am not happy about it.   If I can delay it until after baby is born,  I will.    I want to be able to take all the pills afterwards.

Maybe make sure you have an ice pack on hand for afterwards ?    Holding that on your cheek/mouth area might help some.       I did have a couple fillings done a few weeks ago,  and they said it was a different numbing agent.....still a shot in the gums,  but safe for pregnancy.    I thought it worked great,  so hopefully they can get you nice and numb.    Just let them know you are scared and want your mouth to be really numb.    My dentist always hooks me up when I tell him that.    I would rather deal with a numb face for half the day than feel what they are doing.

Best of Luck to you!   Wishing you a smooth procedure and a speedy recovery!!!   :)

  • I've only had my wisdom teeth pulled out, and I made sure to have them knock me out for that. I'm not great with pain or have experience with this, but I wanted to wish you good luck! I hope all the meds work well for you!

  • Lidocaine alone should still be plenty effective, the epinephrine just helps to prolong its effect and reduce bleeding (I'm a dental hygienist btw). So you may bleed a little more but just keep gauze compressed in the area for a while. I would take the Tylenol at least for the first day, I know you're worried about LO but it's not good for him/her either for you to be stressed or upset over pain! Best of luck to you, hope it goes smoothly and in a few days you should feel much better!
  • dental work is the absolute worst. good luck and i hope it goes smoothly!

Good luck! Hopefully this is better than the wisdom teeth!

Also, your body is made to give birth, so don't think of it in terms of pain tolerance :)
  • That sucks :( You are a much stronger lady than I. I probably would have been screaming. Hope you have a smooth recovery and enjoy your ice cream!

  • Thanks ladies. I've been MIA from TB this weekend because my tooth extraction ended in dry socket and the surgeon is a huge D-BAG. Told me to "tough it out" due to my "condition". Went online and found an at home remedy so the pain isn't as bad. I guess he didn't want to let me interfere in his Memorial Day weekend.
