Side sleeping?

Dd is 3 days old. Literally since she was born and no matter how tight we swaddle, she rolls herself over to the side. I know back sleeping is best and of course I'm freaking out about SIDS. Any advice? Any other LOs doing this?

Re: Side sleeping?

  • My daughter is almost 2 weeks now and she sleeps much better on the side. She also turns to the side herself. I just use firm mattress with no toys and other staff in the crib

DD rolls to her side when she's in her crib for naps during the day. We use the RNP at nap so she is pretty nestled in on her back in that.

  • LO likes to pike her legs up and roll to one side. She usually has the underneath arm straight out and keeps the legs piked so she hasn't rolled over any further. I asked the pedi, she said to put her back on her side if I see it but there's only so much I can do since she does this at night as well. She reiterated to not have anything else in the crib, and only a blanket if she's swaddled in it.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.

My little guy does the same thing. His pediatrician said it's perfectly fine.
  • Thanks everyone.

  • Mine does it too, and so did my first. No worries. :-) (But I totally got nervous when my first LO did too!)

  • What is she sleeping in? Similar to @cbrust we have her in a small bassinet that came with her pack n play. Like the RNP it cuddles her so she doesn't have any room to roll. I tried having her sleep in the RNP but she still seems too tiny in it. She was a little too slumped in it but we'll transition her into it when we can bc it's taller and will be better next to our bed which is pretty high.
  • We have her in the cosleeper next to our bed and she always rolls. I have the RNP but haven't set it up yet. I heard some babies have issues transitioning from that to crib and wanted to make that as easy as possible on all of us when it's time.

Side sleeping is ok!!! Back and side is fine the reason we are all so stuck on back is bc of pampers back to sleep campaigns but research shows side sleep is just as safe! My son is 8 days old and loves side sleeping...we use a securly taped up rolled blanket on the side of his body nice and low to stop him from a full roll over at night..they also have special pillow wedge things at babies r us I believe (we plan on getting one tomorrow) to help keep LO propped and safe
