How soon after c section?

Ok, so I was under the impression that 6 weeks (minimum) was the golden time frame for healing after birth, especially after a c section. I was cool with that and was planning around it.
Today I had an appointment (3w 6d pp) and the doc cleared me for EVERYTHING, mentioning that I'll want to start slow with exercise.

Huh?

I have minimal pain (no pain meds in days) and extremely light occasional bleeding.

Am I a super healer or have others been given an early green light too?

Re: How soon after c section?

  • I got the green light for everything at two weeks, but I didn't have a c section.

I haven't been checked, but was told after two weeks that I could lift over 15lbs again if I felt up to it.
  • I'm 3w today and feel fantastic. I have no doubt that if I were to get checked today, I would be cleared no problem. But they only do a 6w check, so I have to wait. I am starting to workout again though. Slowly, listening to my body, nothing crazy or intense. But starting slowly anyway. I know my body, and I will listen to it.

This - I'm 2w4d and feel awesome. I've started walking (not strenuous - about 2 miles per walk) daily.
  • I felt great after 3-4 weeks. I got the clear to work out at 5 weeks.

  • I was cleared just shy of 3 weeks. I had a c-section as well.

I think that's pretty normal recovery in terms of getting back to normal activity unless you had complications or issues :) congrats!

I was given very light restrictions upon leaving the hospital because I was healing so well and so active before the surgery. I have been walking 2-3 miles + daily, carrying laundry, etc. since my c-section.

My 6-week checkup just got pushed out a week until next Friday so I'm not cleared yet for everything, but I'm expecting to be given the green light to go back to CrossFit immediately (scaled workouts of course since I had to scale back during pregnancy and haven't worked out in what will be 7 weeks) given how well I think I've healed, things look and feel.

  • And since he asked about birth control I assume that "cleared for everything" included sex. Are you all clear for that too?

  • What is sex? Haha
  • When I went to get my stitches out at 8 days PP, he said when I stopped bleeding, I was cleared for sex and after 10 days PP, I could start doing light walks around the neighborhood.

  • I think after my CS I was cleared for exercise at my 6 week appt so I went to the gym.  I bled a lot the next several days so I thought I got my period back but I didn't actually get my period until 9 months pp when I went back to work. Whoops. I felt great working out otherwise so I'd suggest like other pp to just listen to your body and go easy at first.

  • Cleared for exercise and sex at my 6-week appointment yesterday. I've felt great for weeks, though. Honestly, right now I'd rather exercise than have sex. I'm looking into getting back to yoga classes at my gym next week, getting on the elliptical/going swimming, light jogging, and weights. Can't wait to get started again. I've really missed exercising!

  • Haven't been cleared yet but have started running again, slowly. It's amazing how sore stuff gets after you do stuff, like lifting heavy shopping bags, lifting the car seat into a F150 & going running, basically anything that uses those lower abs. I felt great at 2-3 weeks too, until I actually started doing this stuff, then I realized shit, better take it easy since things were still healing. My 6 wk apt is tmrw, I expect to be officially cleared for everything. Hubs is excited for sex, I'm slightly nervous about the prospect.
  • I went to my Dr appointment around 4w PP and my doc cleared me for light exercise, except for weight lifting and working on abs.  He said to wait a little and ramp up gradually.

He said it would be ideal if I waited 6w for sex, but wasn't really forbidding it before then either.  He was all, "Do you really want to be having sex yet?" and gave me sort of a wry smile.  Which sounds presumptuous, but it was true.
  • Doctor wouldn't clear me for work, etc until 6 weeks but I felt fairly normal much sooner.

My first appointment wasn't until 6 weeks, and I was cleared for everything.  I healed really quickly, so I think if they would have seen me earlier, I would have been cleared earlier.  Maybe not for sex, but for everything else.  The doctor just said to let pain be my guide.

Having said that, we tried sex a few days ago, and it didn't really go well.  VERY painful, even with lots of lube.  But I guess you have to start somewhere.

Those of you cleared early; did you have tears?

Maybe I'm healing slowly but my 2nd degree tear doesn't look completely healed yet at 4w pp

I feel great, pretty much done bleeding.

The hemis are still bothersome though...

Edit: tired mom fail. You guys had c sections so different kind of healing.

Perhaps it's time for some coffee

Had I got in for a check at 3 w I have no doubt they would have cleared me I felt great! But I got the all clear yesterday ( which yes includes sex) but if you're not comfortable because you don't feel healed just don't do it
