Decreased Movement

Hi All - I am new to this board but due on August 21, so 27 weeks exact today. On Monday I noticed BH contractions all afternoon/evening which included cramping in my stomach and back. I feel like ever since, my baby has stopped moving and kicking as much. She used to be super active in the mornings and evenings and now I notice no movement during those times. I do keep kick counts during the day while I sit at my desk and I feel her moving slightly, sometimes 10-15 times/hour but not the prominent kicks I had gotten use to and certainly not during the times she has really been most active. Just curious if anyone has had any experience with this? I am considering going to have everything checked out but I have a super busy schedule and wanted to check here first to see if anyone has had this happen and what the outcome was. Thanks!

Re: Decreased Movement

  • Last time I was unsure of baby's movements, they told me to drink something cold and lay on my left side in bed with a hand on my stomach. Lay there for an hour. You should feel 4-6 movements within the hour. If you do, everything should be fine. If not, get checked out!

I hope she starts moving, we all know how scary that feels :(

  • Thanks so much everyone! I do still feel her, just less pronounced. I had grown accustom to seeing my belly bouncing all over the place when she was most active which was in the early morning and late evening. Now it is just subtle movements that I feel during the day. I will try drinking cold water and laying still tonight to see what happens.
  • I think you're probably fine if you can still feel her. My OB did mention that I will likely have a day(s) where I can't feel LO as much and that usually it's because we have gotten used to feeling them now and we don't notice it as much. I definitely think this is true because there have been days lately where DH says he felt a kick and I don't even notice it. I've gotten so used to the BIG kicks, that I don't notice the little ones as much.

Also wanted to add, my OB said that I should drink cold water, lay on my left side and count 10 kicks in 30 minutes, not an hour.

  • My LO was super active and then suddenly wasn't as active and her kicks weren't as hard.  When I went in for my routine doc appointment and ultrasound it showed her breech.  I'm guessing by her position I couldn't feel her as well. She has since flipped ( I think) because its back to normal. As long as you are feeling movement, no matter how strong it is, I think you are perfectly fine.
  • Thanks so much again for everyone's feedback! I will be doing the kick counts tonight and in the morning if I don't get a lot tonight from her and will decide from there. I think if I do not get a lot out of her after that, I will be calling my doctor and going in for some peace of mind. Will update when I can!
  • Space is a hot commodity these days down there... Count movements and if they're not up to your oB's liking, go in. My kicks have morphed into more fluid movements like a pp said, but all healthy. Keep in mind baby might be sleeping up to half an hour these days.
