AW: A/S and It's a...

Everything went great with the a/s. Again baby was super stubborn and we spent 1.5 hours (same with the NT) in the ultrasound room. Doctor came in and said everything looked great, and also informed me my test results came in and I DO NOT HAVE LUPUS! Yay!!

However, we got home and the doctors office called, and the doctor wanted to speak to me. He said that while filling in the report, he noticed the babies head is a little larger than average, and the leg/arm bones are smaller than average. Sooo my 1/1200 chance of down syndrome went to 1/200. He said I can do 3 things, nothing, maternit21 test, or an amnio. I am tempted to do nothing, but may consider the blood test. I wouldn't do an amnio. I'm not really too concerned just because every other test has come back so good, nasal bones, fluid, blood, etc... A friend of mine was told she had a 1/17 chance and her baby had the same exact thing throughout her entire pregnancy and has a completely healthy baby girl.... thoughts??

Anyway, here is our reveal photo!

Re: AW: A/S and It's a...

  • First congratulations! 2nd I don't have personal experience but if there were some sort of concern i would do the testing just to ease my mind from running 100 mph. But I also did not do the blood screening offered to me at 16 weeks because it seems like more often than not, there's not anything that's wrong and it worries you for nothing. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! :-)

We had a slight marker at our a/s and did the blood test.  Very quick and non invasive.

Congrats on your little boy and I love the announcement!

I personally would get the least invasive of the testing, just to give me as much information as possible.  I would want to know if something were wrong and would probably keep testing to get all the answers I could.

I second this and congrats on your little boy!

  • Thanks everyone. I think I'm just going to hold off for now. Is there a limit on when they can do the Materni21 test? I had the a/s done at the peri's office, and see my regular OB in two weeks. I figure I'll just talk to him about it and decide then if that's what I want to do. I have a blood clotting disorder so I'll be seen a lot and already have another ultrasound scheduled in 4 weeks.

Congratulations on a little boy! I wish I could offer useful advice but I don't know what action I would take. I'm sure that you will make the best decision, but definitely sending prayers for a perfectly healthy baby!

Yay for no lupus and yay on a healthy baby!  I'd probably opt for the blood test, just to be armed with as much info as possible, though it is still just a screening, right?

Great reveal picture.  Little boys are sooooo much fun.

Yay no lupus! And very cute reveal! I don't know what I would do about the tests... Probably the least invasive one to try to get some clarity. Sending good thoughts your way!

I'm glad your lupus screening came back negative. I don't know what the window is for Materniti21, but I think it's a great option to consider. I'm so happy that non-invasive tests are available now.

I completely agree! The idea of doing an invasive test scares me to no end!

  • Congrats on baby boy! Sorry you have to make a hard decision on the testing - I would go the blood test (maternti21) vs. invasive test route too. Sending lots of good thoughts that all is okay.

  • Congrats on baby boy!I have no advice for the testing, but I want to wish you good luck!
