Recommend your breast pump

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and looking at getting a new pump.
I'm a SAHM so I only need one for occasional pumping but don't know which brand is best although I've heard amazing things about Medela.
Tell me about your experiences with different brands and styles.

I used the Medela at the hospital but i bought the Dr. Browns Simplisse Double Electric Pump and it has been amazing. Also the customer service is AWESOME! You get a live person that actually talks to you about your individual pumping needs/uses and they send replacement parts (if you need any) for free usually the next day.
  • I'm an EPer so I use the serious shit - the Medela Symphony hospital grade (rental from BRU). Pumping LIKE A BOSS. But if you only plan to do it for a few months, it might be a good alternative to buying one. I think it's like $60/month.

I tried the Medela Freestyle and I thought it sucked (or more correctly, didn't suck). It was really loud and it didn't seem to get much milk out for me. But I don't know how it compares to say a PISA because I've never tried that.

Agree with others on the Harmony, it's cheap and it WORKS! If you only plan to pump once or twice a day it's not a bad option. If you do breast compressions with it also, you'll get more milk out. I use it when I'm away from my hospital pump, like on a trip or out and about.

Clicking "Love it" wasn't going to be sufficient. I got a big kick out of that line. Thanks for the laugh! (And my only experience is with the Medela Pump in Style Advanced--- probably overkill for the needs of an occasional pumper)

  • I bought a Harmony for emergencies (I'm an anxious freak) and have a PISA I use daily as I work FT. I respond well to the Harmony and have used it twice in a pinch. It takes time. About 40 min to empty (and owwwww my arm!) as opposed to 25 on the PISA, and I pump hands free using the PISA so those aren't a lost 25 min, either.

Also, I use the PISA in supply dips for power pumping/power hours etc. If money wasn't an issue, I'd get the PISA.
