sleeping with a bra

i was talking with another mom to be and she told me she's been sleeping with a bra on because she's so uncomfortable. granted she said she started as an e cup but it got me thinking...is this a thing i'm unaware of? my boobs have grown at least 2 cups at this point and are definitely in the way when i lay on my side. does anyone else do this? she said she usually sleeps in a sports bra, not an underwire or anything. just wanted to hear your thoughts on this. thanks!

  • I used to love sleeping in a bra, until I married DH and he broke me of the habit. So I could see it feeling better. I bought a pink sleep bra once at Victoria's Secret and really liked it. I think it'd be more comfortable than a sports bra.
  • Yep! Sleep in a sports bra.

  • I have worn a bra 23.5 hours a day since I was 19.   I had a breast reduction and reconstruction when I was that age, and my surgeon was frank.  "If you want to keep 'em perky forever, ALWAYS wear a bra.  Don't let gravity get a hold of them..."

So 19 years and one baby later....  The girls are still standing at full attention, eyes forward.  I am so glad I took his advice.  I want to pass the pencil test when I am 80.

If you don't believe me (and my cutter) have a look at National Geographic.  :P

  • I've been sleeping in a bra since I started wearing one! I can't stand the feeling of naked boobs and I don't know why lol

I've always slept in a bra too. I only wear a sports bra to bed if I shower before going to sleep too. Otherwise, I just sleep in what I was wearing during the day. I hate the feeling of my boobs against my skin, luckily this is the last baby and I'm lifting up the girls after I lose my baby weight :)

I could never sleep in my daytime bra! I get home from work, change into comfy clothes, including a bra change. There are way too many hooks, wires and magical powers in my day bras to be comfortable to lounge in.

  • hahah you ladies are too funny. i agree with @tarynleann that the best feeling in the world is taking my bra off- its a running joke with my sister and dh but now is a different story. i might invest in a sleep bra or a bigger sports bra.

  • Thats funny @moroccojade‌! I started sleeping in a bra as a girl because I saw Oprah interview Halle berry and ask her why her boobs were so perky. Halle said she slept in a bra, so I did too. Full underwire ones. It would sound a lot more reasonable coming from a dr than Halle, but I listened all the same. :) If DH hadn't asked me to stop, I would being doing it to this day. So I'll blame him if my boobs get droopy. ;)

Another busty gal here, I've slept in a bra for as long as I can remember. I used to sleep in a regular sports bra, then I found some tanks with shelf bras that I like, and now I have some great athletic tanks from Old Navy with a built in that's better than the average shelf.

  • I sleep in a sports bra and always have. The girls are pretty much only free when I'm in the shower or DH and I are getting busy.

  • If I do sleep in a bra, it is a "yoga bra" I find them softer and less constraining than the bras I wear to work out. At a 36D pre-pregnancy, you better believe my sports bras had the girls on lock down so I could stand to go running!

  • My girls are ridiculously big right now. I have been sleeping in a soft bra ever since I can remember because it helps with upper back pain. Now that I went up another size it is even more important that the girls stay supported.

I am not busty. I have been an A cup when at my thinnest (pre kids) and with pregnancy/nursing I am a B or C cup. But since getting pregnant with DS 2+ years ago I have worn a sleeping bra and it is so comfortable. I am not sure if I could go back to "commando"

I still wear my nursing tanks because they give support but are comfortable. I actually can't remember what I wore before my daughter was born lol

  • I think I may need to find one of these sleep bras you ladies speak of.  I'm not well-endowed, normally a 34B, now I'm just a very full 34B.  The gals were tender during the first trimester and I slept in sports bras or tanks with a shelf then and it helped.  I've gone back to sleeping without one now most of the time.

Hahaha, I always change into a comfy bra too!  It's ratty and old, but I can't stand the feeling of naked boobs either during the day.  I don't wear one to bed, but we'll see what happens as the girls keep growing-I've already gone from a C to a D cup.

I used to all the time, but then quit. When I got pregnant with dd I started wearing one again, because I was so uncomfortable and it helped. This time I'm not because I'm so tired of wearing them. After having dd I leaked so much I had to wear them so now if I don't have to I like to be free.

  • I'm honestly surprised that my boobs haven't really gotten that much bigger yet.  I'm started out a 34DDD and while they certainly are spilling over the cups a bit, I haven't had to break down and buy a bigger size yet.  I did have to let out the straps and go out to the longest hook setting though.  I'm delaying as long as possible in hopes of minimizing the number of times I have to size up.  Bras that size aren't cheap or easy to find!

  • I sleep with a bra after I have the baby because if I don't I will leak all over.

That being said, I never ever sleep with a bra otherwise. That sounds super uncomfortable.

I sleep with a sports bra. I went up 2 cups sizes and my boobs hurt like all get out when I sleep on my side and especially when I roll over to the other side.
  • I've been sleeping in a bra since having DS. I started with nursing sleep bras (Lamaze made a comfy one that I loved) and now I'm just more comfortable with one on. I sleep in lightweight Hanes sports bras or Coobie bras without the padding. I'm not overly big or anything (34C) but it's just more comfortable.

My mom always told me this. I followed this advice as well. Never go without a bra. Only in the shower lol

I got my sleep bra from Target.  It's a nursing sleep bra, seen HERE.  I didn't want to invest in anything pricey because I wasn't sure if I'd like it.  So I have nothing else to compare it to, but I like these.  They are a very light fabric and get softer after a washing.  They aren't super-duper supportive; they may not be appropriate for bustier women.  My usual size is 34C, I'm up to a D and I bought the large.  They corral the gals nicely and I am much less sore in the morning if I wear one to bed.

I never used to wear a bra to bed as a DD but now at an F I've been wearing a cami with a shelf bra- not the most supportive but it keeps them reigned in and prevents them from getting stuck in my armpits or smacking me in the face when I roll over.
