Baby won't let me put her down

My little girl is 5 weeks tommorow and for the past week she has been crying every time I set her down. I can't get anything done! She sleeps in the Bjorn while I try and get some things done but after a while my back starts to hurt. Is this just a phase or am I making her this way by picking her up all the time?

Re: Baby won't let me put her down

  • My LO is 5wks 3 days & for the past 3 days my LO has exacted the exact same way. He constantly wants to be held or nursed. I try to put him down when he falls asleep but he just screams and ends up back on the boob. It has been a very long 3 days. I read/heard it is probably a growth spurt and that growth spurts can last 2-3 days or up to a week.

You can't spoil a baby this young. He needs you be it for comfort or food.
  • Everything @ColleenSwerb said. Between 4 and 6 weeks, babies start becoming more aware of things and people around them, and it's kinda scary for some of them. Moms are the most familiar person, and also the one babies depend on the most. You cannot spoil a baby this young, and babies don't know how to "manipulate" parents at this age. The sooner parents tend to babies' needs, the more trusting and confident the babies become.

  • So glad to see others have this issue too. LO wants to be held 24 hours a day. He's a perfect angel when being held....just don't set him down. Haha! Thank goodness for baby wearing slings.
  • My house is a mess and I haven't shaved my legs in weeks because my girl needs me to hold her. This phase is very difficult but babies need their mommies to hold them. Hang in there.
