What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? Last week we had to supplement/pump because she was too sleepy to do a full feeding at the breast. After two days of using the SNS to supplement DD got enough energy to nurse at the breast. We were able to wean off the supplementing and pumping. On Sunday she started waking up to eat on her own. So I no longer have to wake her up to eat every 3 hours as she naturally wants to eat every 2 hours now. I'm so happy it looks like we worked through all the issues and we're going to be successfully breastfeeding.
Raves and rants? I was concerned at her pedi appointment Monday she only put on 0.75oz since Thursday night. But the pedi said he wasnt worried. That the important thing is that she stopped losing weight and is waking up on her own to eat. He didn't see any reason for us to come back for a weight check (unless I think something is wrong) and our next appointment isn't until 3 weeks from now. Scary, but I got to believe everything is fine!
Anything else you want to share? I feel bad for DH he keeps asking if he can supplement DD wih pumped milk or take her so I can get some sleep. I think he really want to be involved with feeding her. But I keep explaining that it doesn't really work that way and if he feeds her I have to pump so I'd rather just breastfeed directly. Maybe in a week or two we'll introduce the bottle and start pumping so DH can do one feeding a day but it seems too early right now.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? One week today, trying to do every 2-3 hours even if I have to wake him up.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? He had lost a few more ounces at his first pedi appt, so we have to go back for a weight check. Part of me doesn't want to wait another week to decide about supplementation in case he's not getting enough, but I don't know what to do. May call pedi back today.
Raves and rants? I feel like I'm not producing enough and sometimes he's lazy latching even if I try different poses with him. I want to see about an LC consult.
Anything else you want to share? Nah...I just hope it gets easier

How old is LO ? How long between feedings? My son is 6 days old. He usually eats every 2-3 hours and once in a while we get a bigger stretch at night
EBF, EP, supplementing? Now we are EBF. We had to supplement when we got home due to jaundice and because he lost a little over 7% of his birth weight. I'm lucky because he has no issue going from bottle to breast.
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? My left breast has a lot of tissue underneath my underarm. It was/is very painful and like having a golf ball in my underarm. It is getting less painful but it doesn't seem to soften as much as the breast after a feeding.
Raves and rants? Just my third boob. Anyone have this happen? Does it go away in a few days like the rest of the engorgement should?

I'm just very proud of myself for BFing. I had major anxiety about it during pregnancy because I knew how hard it can be and I'm just glad I stuck with it

I'm in my cousin's wedding this weekend and trying to get enough pumping done so my DH can take him duringall the bridesmaid stuff I have to do is frustrating.
However I know I'm lucky that he sleeps through most of the night, still gets enough food. He switches easily from bottle to bbreast and takes bottles cold. He's fairly easy. However I wish my DH could help more.

How old is LO ? How long between feedings?
LO is 10 days old. I've been feeding him just about every 3 hours so far, plus or minus 30 minutes or so. I'll probably keep it up until I know he's back at birth weight, and then go to feeding on demand. He would already go longer between some feedings if I let him.

EBF, but I will probably add a pumping session after his next check up. I need to start a stash earlier this time so we will have enough when I go back to work.
What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
LO messed up my right nipple the first couple of days, so we're still working on letting it heal. The left side doesn't hurt much anymore when he nurses, but as of a couple of days ago when he nursed on the right side it sent sharp pains shooting down my side and through my arm. We met with my LC, who said he is eating enough, but it's his latch on that side. Between a nipple shield and nipple shells, it is healing well. I fed off it without the shield this morning, and the pain was minimal. Yay! It was rough for a while, and it even started bleeding along with cracking. Freaked me out!

I'm just glad the pain is going away. I knew it would, but pushing myself through the last week when I felt like my body was going to rip in half when he nursed feels like an accomplishment.

LO is 2.5 weeks. Feedings are anywhere between 1.5 hours and 3 hours.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ?
I think I have a problem with oversupply. I'm getting engorged and LO is having a hard time latching, especially at night. One solution I've found is hand expressing into a burp cloth or the sink until my nips are soft enough for him to latch. I wanted to start pumping this week, but I'm going to hold off until my supply regulates.

Not too bad. We had what I'm guessing was a growth spurt from Saturday to Wednesday so he basically hung out on my boobs all day. I was needing a break. Luckily he started evening out again.

Burping is a challenge. I have yet to figure out what exactly will produce a burp. I go between like 5 different methods. I think it might be caffeine too so I'm trying real hard not to want that coke right now.

Rave. He's starting to sleep in his basket so I can sleep properly in my bed. He's also awake more so I can hang out with him. Rant. I want that coke. And I'm so over PP bleeding.

Not too bad. Little guy is going thru a growth spurt tho and has some gas problems:/

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? I am just worried that he isn't eating for long enough during each feeding. But he does have a lot of wet diapers, so I guess he is getting enough.
Raves and rants? I seem to be an overproducer. I just have so much and am leaking all the time and it's hard for him to latch.

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? Babe has her days and nights confused. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but cluster feeding from 12am-3am isn't ideal, either. No solutions. We have been trying to keep her up, then trying the "sleep breeds sleep" thing... She will just regulate when she feels like it, I suppose. Though I'm willing to try anything at this point.
Raves and rants? Raves: I love that she wants to sleep on my tummy/chest and relish that time with her. She is also smiling a lot and getting to be more social. My H is an outstanding husband and father. I've had a bit of the blues and he has been amazing with both of us. Rants: blues, babe having her nights/days confused, not being able to get out of the house.
Anything else you want to share? I like this thread/check-in because it helps me realize I'm not alone in some of the struggles I (foolishly) thought were unique to our little girl/me.
I Decided to pump this week. It's only day 2 but I like it much better.

DD is 4 weeks today. Going about 1.5-2 hours in between BM feedings and 2-3 hours in between formula.

I just got so stressed with bfing. Her latch got newly messed up (I think she got used to the shallow latch of bottle nipples), I was miserable feeding her every hour, tired, frustrated. She also spit up a lot from what I'm betting is a forceful let down, so I decided to EP. I don't pump enough right from the start to feed her for a day, so I'm wondering if that's why she ate so frequently?

I hate pumping, but I hate it less than bfing so I'm calling it a win. I feel like I have the best of all worlds: she gets the benefits of BM, I get some more freedom with bottles, we have convenience of formula and she sleeps longer with formula.

Just do the best you can and don't beat yourself up if things don't work the way you hoped.
We had our pedi visit on Tuesday and learned that DD has lost 10% of her birth weight. We met with an LC the next day, and she got 1.5 oz from our feeding at the appointment. Since she needs to be getting 2oz per feed or 20.1pz daily to gain appropriately, the LC recommended pumping and supplementing an additional 0.5oz after each nursing session. Unfortunately, I'm not pumping enough so we started supplementing with formula last night. It has helped DD sleep immensely. I'm just hoping my supply increases quickly!

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find? I NIP for the first time with #2. I had her in my ring sling and had to figure out the best position. I don't think her latch was all that great in the sling since my nips were a bit more tender than usual afterwards. Hoping with a little more practice, we'll have it down easy.
Raves and rants? My nipples aren't as sore anymore. I'm thrilled because it took a good 5 weeks before they felt like this with my first. So glad things are going more smoothly with #2.

Great! My only complaint is she seems to sometimes get too much air in so we end up playing the latching game for 1-2 minutes each time with her not as amused by the game
How old is LO ? How long between feedings? She is 2 weeks and anywhere from 30 min to 3 hours. Still extremely unpredictable

What challenges have you had this week, what solutions did you find ? I started trying to feed with her more upright to reduce burping and air intake which seems to be helping.
Raves and rants? Nights still suck- she was having a good few days going 2-3 hours at a time then the last two nights has been fussing and won't sleep in her crib even swaddled. Just makes weird noises that get louder and will only be quiet if she is on her stomach on us. Also she has been liking to cluster feed a bit from 10-midnight.
But- she gained 1# in two weeks from her birth weight so go booby juice!
Anything else you want to share? Had my first public BF experience- well 3. One on a bench, twice at a restaurant outside (luckily we were at the end of the porch) and I really dislike having to feed under those udder covers it's like feeding in a cave!

Sore nipples. My best friend gave me some gel pads that u put in the fridge. They are amazing and work!

Started pumping a few days ago on righty because he didn't like to feed on that side. Was able to get 1.75 ozs the first time. Now he will feed on that side but I still pump one to two times so grandma and dad can feed him. No nipple confusion yet.
No rants this week. Knock on wood.

This experience is everything I hope it would be and more. I frel so silly for worrying so much. I hope it continues to go so well!
