S/O shoes or sandals...stinky feet question

So, DD only has a few pairs of shoes right now, partially because her feet are tiny and I can't find anything that fits very well, so I've been procrastinating.  In any case, she wears the same Pediped mary janes almost every day.  And since it's pretty warm here, she doesn't wear socks.  Daycare was giving me a hard time the other day (in sort of a joking/friendly way) about DD's feet being stinky.  SOOOOO.  Am I weird for not having her wear socks?  Do your LOs always wear socks?  Even in like 100 degree weather?  How do you keep shoes from getting too stinky?  I feel like I'm failing on her feet hygiene!

Re: S/O shoes or sandals...stinky feet question

  • DD doesn't anyways wear socks. Most of her shoes don't require them. I will always put socks on her for shoes like runners or boots. I don't wear socks all of the time, so I'm not going to make her.

We put socks on our DD when she's wearing sneakers or boots..sometimes Mary Janes depending on the type they are.  If she's in sandals definitely not.  Maybe instead of wearing the same ones everyday could she rotate between another pair or two?

This is what i'm thinking is the best solution.

DS wears shoe/sandal hybrids, kindof like this:

We chose these for breathability, since he runs hot. We do use them with socks at daycare. When it's hotter we'll probably find sandals to use without socks, but probably look for something with more ventilation/less fabric so his feet don't sweat and get stinky.

This kind of like what we have for DS. They do water play at daycare and his are able to get wet, but still have good support and grip on the bottom.

  • DD wears TOMS sandals. She was wearing the regular shoes but her feet smell too much and it's way too hot here for socks.
  • I also spray some BioKleen BacOut into the shoes if they get stinky. You can kind of wash TOMS too so DH made DD's shoes less stinky but I prefer her in sandals.

We use socks when DS is wearing his athletic sneakers. He doesn't wear socks with sandals. His feet are stinky when he wears socks and sneakers because his feet must sweat like his father's. So this summer we'll pretty much put him in sandals all the time.
