grammar question.

When punctuation is needed after a word ending in an apostrophe, does the punctuation come before or after the apostrophe?

Example:
I have nothin.' OR I have nothin'.

I am inclined to think that the punctuation should come first, because it does most any other time (it thinks it's entitled, but I try not to judge).

It would be after the apostrophe. The apostrophe is taking place of part of the word, so it, along with the letters, is all one unit.
    That makes prefect sense. Thanks.

Can we not just type the "g" and take the mystery right out of it?

ETA: I appreciate the focus on punctuation!

Lol, that's what I was going to say. Just as much effort to type the g (actually would be less effort on my phone since I have to tap an extra key to get to the apostrophe).
