iPhone 5c vs 5s - what's the difference?

Yeah yeah yeah, I know I can look online and see the details with each phone but I want to hear the differences from a person. I got an email that I can upgrade from my iPhone 4s to a 5c for free or get $100 off the 5s. Is the only difference Suri on the 4/5s? Anyone go from a 4s to a 5c? Who can give me the skinny?

  • Awesome, thanks!! I've had my 4s for over 2 years. It's fine but if I can get a new one for free, I might just do that! Ok, not TOTALLY free. The fine print says there's a $29 fee or something and I need to lock into a 2 year contract. But still a great deal!

  • I have the 5S and DH has the 5C and honestly whatever the differences are we don't notice. Both are great.
Where are you looking to get it? Sometimes target has a $30 off mobile coupon

  • I went from a 4s to a 5s. we looked into the 5c- the only thing I worried about was color part on the back. It's plastic and I tend to drop my phone a lot. The 5s is an all aluminum back.
The 5c also has a A6 processor chip while the 5s has the new A7 processor. Also the fingerprint feature, which is cool but can be a PITA. and lastly,  price!

we went with the 5s and haven't been disappointed :)

@hls19‌ Would the back on the 4c possibly come off if you had a case on it? Or are you a no-case-using daredevil? :)

Just a heads up regarding the "free upgrade ". Usually they increase your rate and you extend your contract, so it's not actually free. You're paying more monthly.

And Lifeproof is the best case, ever. Slimmer than an otter.

Hmmm... thanks for the heads up on the increased monthly bill. I'll make sure and ask about that!

I use a case- I just don't use otter boxes. I do belkin cases. So I guess with my thin cases I worried about the 5c back cracking. I don't think I could not use a case. DH tried it for a day & said the 5s with no case is too slippery. It scared him into using one. Hahaha

The camera and processor are the biggest differences. If you aren't a big gamer on your phone, you're fine with the C.
LoL on my phone? Too soon? ;)

  • I have nothing meaningful to add to this conversation, but I'm getting an insurance claim on my 4s so I'm stalking this thread to see what the differences are. Since the 4s is so old, I'll probably get a 5c for the deductible.

  • I was in the same position as you. I was ready for an upgrade and could get the 5c for free or pay $100 for the 5s. I asked the difference and they weren't enough for me to feel I needed the 5s. Also you will have to pay the activation fee (or whatever they call it,) but your bill should stay the same. Also I have an otter box and it has been dropped numerous times, no problems!

  • The 5c is just the 4s in color. If you have the 4s already it wouldn't be an upgrade to get the 5c. Plus the 5c and 5s are different shapes and it's harder to find cases for the 5c. I upgraded from the 4 (not 4s) to the 5c and I love it though. Much faster than the regular 4.
  • I have the 5s and like it. Ditto the Lifeproof case, it is really slim. Also, you can totally get that activation charge waived. My bill only increased $5 because I got insurance

  • DH has the 5s and loves it.  I want the 5c purely based on the pretty colors
