Staying at hotel with baby

We are taking our first little vacay with DD this weekend and I've just realized what a potential disaster the sleeping situation can be as well as the fact that she is crawling everywhere. Makes me sick to think of her rolling around on the floor of a hotel room.

Any tips for surviving the overnight stay and getting her to sleep with us so close by? She usually needs to sleep in complete darkness and alone - seeing us throws her into a fit. I'm thinking maybe of putting her in a corner and draping an Aden & Anais breathable blanket over the porta crib?

Any tips for protecting her as she rolls around the hotel room? ...i'll look out for cords, etc. but all of the nastiness that I assume is on the floor ... how do I prevent any exposure to god knows what is on there? Should I bring a bunch of really huge blankets??

Thanks!

  • We stayed in a hotel and had to listen to dd's music and deal with the lights on the ceiling. She freaks out in complete darkness. As far as the carpet--how long is she going to be on it, realistically? I just let dd crawl on it last month. Even when I put a blanket down, she moves right off of it. We just watched her closely as far as trying to pull up by holding onto the blankets on the bed and made sure she didn't get close to cords.

We'll be hitting some hotels in July and Aug. I upgraded to a suite so baby can go to bed and DH and I can stay up later. Honestly I'm just going to let her crawl on the floor as long as we keep her away from obvious hazards like cords. We're also planning to keep bedtime routine as close to usual as possible. We have a tent-like travel crib, so I'm going to use that a few nights at home before travel to get her used to it, take my iPad with her usual night music/video on it, etc.

  • We haven't been to a hotel w dd yet, but DS slept in the hotel closet or bathroom or wherever we could stash the pnp and still stay up after he went to bed.

  • When we went out of town for a wedding I just called the hotel and requested a crib. When we checked in they sent a lady up to set up the hotel pack n play. Honesty weren't in the hotel much when LO wasn't napping but I would just plop the kiddo in the pack n play if I couldn't watch him for a minute.

  • For the floor I would bring blankets for sure! You don't have to cover the floor just enough of it for her to be content. I would drape a blanket over the top until you go to bed and then take it off.
  • We were in DC for 4 nights earlier this month. The hotel crib was just fine but we did end up having to keep quiet once she hit the sack. We quietly drank, watched movies on our iPad with headphones, did some snuggling and went to bed early.

We brought her bouncy chair for when she has her bottles and let her hang on the king bed for playing. If you are doing formula don't forgot some soap for bottle washing. I also brought Tupperware to soak the parts in.

When we go to cheaper places like Austin we stay in a hotel that has a separate bedroom from main room. So much easier! Good luck!

  • We just spent three nights in a hotel. LO isn't quite crawling yet. He is a rolling and getting up on all fours and rocking machine. At first I was grossed out by the carpet but then figured whatever and just let him play.

I have no advice about sleep. We were bed share-ers. We've only moved him to his crib In the last week and a half. In the hotel we bed shared.

Yep, this. We have been in a hotel 4 different times so far, and every time we put her PNP in the closet or bathroom with the fan running on the AC. We all slept great.
