Success after IF

Intro and question about OHSS

Hi ladies! I'm so happy to have found this board. I've been participating on my birth month board but just found out this group existed! DH and I are successful after 3 years of trying and one round of IVF. I am currently 7 weeks and 3 days along.  I had a question for anyone who has been through this. After transfer I experienced OHSS symptoms and had to have an amniocentesis to remove fluid, the whole nine yards. When I came up with a positive test, the doctor thought that I would have OHSS symptoms but I've been very lucky to not have it return. My ovaries, however, are still the size of softballs and I'm still experiencing pain. Did anyone else experience this? How long did it take for the ovaries to return to a normal size?

Congratulations! You are more than welcome to post here, however, all of us here have our babies already. The PAIF board is all women currently pregnant after treatments. That board might give you more people to talk to!

OHSS is a B! It may be another month or two for your ovaries to slim back down. Drink coconut water or Gatorade rather than water to help with fluid retention for a little while. Also, take it easy; listen to your body. If it feels uncomfortable, dont do it. Hopefully your symptoms don't get worse or come back! (BTW, what you had done is called a paracentesis)

  • I didn't have to have fluid drained, but did have a touch of OHSS. Pregnancy can worsen symptoms, and my ovaries were grapefruit size and touching one another. It took well into my second trimester before they didn't feel uncomfortable.

  • Thank you for the replies. Looks like I'm halfway through this large ovaries during pregnancy. They've become more painful in the last week (probably a good sign). Hopefully in a few months, I can join your board!!!
