let's talk about face wash!

So... I have been using some natural face wash made with tea tree oil. But ... now my pgal brain is making me questions this. I don't like using the face washes with harmful ingreidients (EDTA parabens etc)... what do you all use for face wash? Any tea tree users?

Re: let's talk about face wash!

  • I use the Clean n Clear Cream cleanser... it works fine for me. I guess I don't worry to much about things as long as I'm not ingesting it in my body.

  • I try to avoid things like parabens and pthalates too (in general, not since becoming pregnant), but I don't worry as much about face wash/body wash/shampoo because they're not really on your skin long enough to be absorbed. It seems like it's more important to be careful with body lotions and sunscreen because they're going all over and being absorbed.

Right now I'm using Aveeno bar soap for my face and body moisturizer.

Someone linked this website on PaIF the other day. I think it has a lot of good information, but it can be kind of scary and intimidating, especially if you're an anxious person like me.

  • I use tea tree oil face wash and toner.  I've done a bit of research on it (disclaimer:  do not rely on my research) and determined that it was ok to continue using so long as it wasn't ingested.  I don't normally ingest my face wash anyway so I continue to use it :)

  • I'm lazy. I'm still using Neutrogena face scrub, and so far, no need for acne cream but I use I still use it occasionally. The problem with my skin is I can't go more than a day or two without using some form of acne cleanser or cream on it if I want it under control for the next few months. Miss a week, and I'll be spending 6 months trying to clear it back up.

  • I use the St. Ives apricot scrub. I love it. I would use it even if it was filled with parabens.

    Exactly this

  • Coconut oil is amazing for removing makeup, and totally natural.  It's also the best moisturizer I've ever used!  We use Dr Bronners liquid castile soap for body washing.  But, keep in mind that I'm so crazy crunchy that we don't even use shampoo/conditioner in this house.  (We use baking soda and apple cider vinegar--I promise I'm not greasy!) ;)
  • Tea tree is fine for pregnancy. I had doTERAA's Clear Skin face wash and love it.
  • @peggels24 - I did read that too the more I researched it... which makes me feel better

@latham12 - I've thinking about trying out doTerra or young living products.

@Mrs_Bennett - you would fit in at my house! our body wash is dr. bronner's too and I made my dh's shave cream from dr bronner's too. do you whip your coconut oil ? I just have some in a jar in the bathroom but I kind of want to try it whipped.

I switched over to the neutrogena naturals face wash. It's like 98% all natural ingredients. And I also switched to a more natural body lotion. The Gud brand by Burt's Bees.

  • If your skin isn't super sensitive, use a very basic but gentle natural bar soap. One that contains just lye and natural oils and butters. I buy handmade soap from a girlfriend who sells on etsy- I know exactly what goes into her products and there aren't any harmful ingredients. If your face is too sensitive for bar soap, try the oil cleansing method. Use some organic natural oils like apricot kernel, avocado, hazelnut, etc. I make my own. If you want a little exfoliation action, use ground oatmeal as another poster suggested.

If you're acne-prone, I wouldn't use coconut oil on your face- it's very comedogenic. But it works wonders on hair!

This is NOT a shameless plug, but I use Perfectly Posh's Delish foaming face wash. It is so gentle, smells great, it is natural based, and no parabens, parafins, or petroleum based fillers (also made in the USA and cruelty-free) :)

I'm an Esthetician :) we need to stay away from salicylic acid, willow tree bark (where salicylic comes from), retinols, acids like glycolic or products that say they have AHA or BHA ingredients
