Hi Mom's -
I know many of you have beat a dead horse when the topic of transitioning to WCM has come up, so I'm sorry about this in advance. I discussed with my pedi nurse today on the method to the BIG transition should be dealt with, got that down. We discussed the several options of soy, almond, goat, coconut, etc milk. Figured that out. So now after I went to the store to purchase the milk, now my big concern is I only found one milk at the local grocery store that I frequent that has the DHA, which is the horizon brand. Its a lot more than I thought it was going to be. Now is it necessary for LO to have the DHA in the milk? I know it was in the formula he's on right now, but is it important in the milk? I'm so confused all over again.
Please help unconfuse me lol!
Re: WCM
AAP hasn't really taken a stance on it. Yes DHA is important but I don't think we know exactly how much is needed and if supplementation is necessary. They talk about its importance when breastfeeding but not specifically after that.
In terms of DHA, we give her yogurt that has DHA in it instead of buying the ridiculously expensive milk that our store carries. Our doctor said that that was fine and that you get about the same amount per serving in both. Also yogurt has probiotics and other good stuff that milk might not.
