Breastfeeding

EPing and pregnant

Hi ladies, so I've got a wonderful 7 month DS at home.  We had issues with breastfeeding at the beginning and I ended up having to EP, which has been an interesting challenge, but I'm proud of myself for sticking to it this long, particularly since I also work full-time.

Well, I just took a test this morning and found out I'm pregnant!  My husband and I are actually over the moon because we didn't think it would ever happen naturally - we had some "assistance" with our first and it took quite a while :)

My question is, does anyone have experience with continuing to breastfeed while pregnant?  I can already sense a bit of a dip in my supply.  I'd like to continue, but I don't want it to be at the detriment of DS, baby #2, or my sanity :)  Any tips/tricks?  Opinions for or against?

Thanks!!

Re: EPing and pregnant

  • A mom on my BMB nursed her DS while pregnant with her now 4ish month old DD. They're both still BFing.

@ANDYLEAH any tips or time to help out? :)

  • Continuing to EP will be no problem until you reach about the 6 or 7 month. Which will put your DS at about 14 or so months. Your body and milk supply will make the baby it's priority and begins to produce colostrum. If you're ok pumping through this period (it can start to get painful at this point), and your DS will still take the colostrum, great!! By that point you really have to play it by ear.

I BF my DS through my pregnancy and still do! Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!!

My milk dried up around 12-14 weeks :(
That's what I'm worried about!! I'm thinking maybe to at least start mixing a tiny bit of formula into my BM so if I happen to dry up I would have at least started to gradually get his body used to the formula anyway.

I'm pregnant with a 10 month old and my dr. Just told me to stop bf be caused it might be detrimental to the baby. Also I just read the milk doesn't fill up my 10 month old as much. Funny, we noticed he was losing so much weight so we finally figured out that was the reason. Does anyone know how many bottles to give him cuz I want to go cold turkey with stopping to nurse and I don't know when to give home. I used to nurse 4 x a day and once in the middle if the night.
