3rd Trimester

Going to the loo every 2 hours in the night

I'm 31 weeks pregnant and i'm having trouble with my bladder, I know I'm needing to go more in the day and annoying as it is i can deal with it but I'm getting really fed up of not having a good nights sleep because every 1 - 2 hours and having to go for a pee.

Is this normal?

I've never been pregnant before so I don't know if this is excessive, especially because i'm just going straight back to bed and not drinking, we have a clock in our bathroom and I never go more than 2 hours before i'm back in there.

  • Yep, it's normal.

  • Thank you guys.

I had my last antenatal appointment at the hospital about a week ago, my urine was checked and there were no issues (although I didn't mention how frequently i'm going, I totally forgot as we were mainly discussing my sickness), i'm assuming if there was some kind of problem or infection it would have shown up anyway?
I also had my blood pressure checked and the doctor said it was normal.

I'm not back at the hospital for another 3 weeks but I will mention it then.

  • It's probably normal but I would still ask your doc at your next appointment.  I have to cut myself off fluids a couple of hours before I go to bed to prevent myself from peeing every couple of hours in the middle of the night.  Not sure if you're already doing that but if not may be worth a try.

  • :)) I'm sorry. I know it's miserable, but think of it as practice for the newborn routine.

That's me every night, and I drink water through the night so I don't feel dehydrated.  The one night last week I only woke up once to pee, I personally felt should have been celebrated with an elaborate parade.  It was magical.

  • I am 32 weeks 1day with triplets and have been going every hour and a half for about 10 weeks. When you go to the bathroom be sure to lean forward on your bladder to get everything out. It really helps a bunch and helped me add an extra luxurious 20 mins of sleep before having to go again. Also, try to cut back on fluid intake about 2-3 hours before bed then drink more as you go to the the bathroom about 4 hours before waking. This helped me get more sleep. But I'd call ur doc to make sure this is all ok with them! Good luck and happy sleeping, even for a short period :)
  • Try drinking less before bed, leaning forward and holding your belly up while you go and even sitting there for an extra 5 seconds then stand up and sit back down for another few seconds. A lot of the time I get some more out that way after feeling like there could not possibly be more in there.

Aside from that, it is totally normal as long as your DR isn't concerned about BP, GD, etc.

  • Some times I can go evey hour or even half hour depending on how much I drink. Totally normal. Your De should be doing urines every time you go to make sure it is ok.

If you are not sure tell your dr next time you see him or her but is normal to pee a lot. Someone else said when you go lean forward and even hold up your bump a bit to get all the pee out. It does help a bit.
