Progesterone supps?

Good morning!

Mr OB's office just called back with my first betas and they were at 88 @ 12dpo which I am super pumped about! However the receptionist did mention they would like me to start progesterone suppositories even though it was at 20 simply because of my prior loss. 20 seems ok to me, are the progesterone supps really necessary?

I never had my progesterone levels tested but my Dr. Also just put me on them as a proactive than thing and to give me some piece of mind that we were throwing everything at this pregnancy. I don't know if they made a difference or not. They can't hurt but they can be expensive.

I've never had my progesterone checked, but my RE is having me take prometrium because of my 2 losses. It's likely just for peace of mind, but it does make me feel a little better.

I should mention I'm more of a minimalist and don't want to take/medicate anymore than I need to but I suppose you are right @kimmyberly26‌ it can't hurt?

My re put me on them as a can't hurt might help. For me, particularly in the first fee weeks, they made me feel like I was proactively doing something different and good for this baby. The only downside is that for the last 6 1/2 weeks, I have been feeling like I'm peeing my pants with all the leakage. Pantyliners will be your new BFF.

I also used them in the camp of they cant hurt but might help. My RE said I could wean off of them at 9wks, but when I met with the OB he said I could stay on them until no later than 14weeks if it would help with my peace of mind. I'll be 13 weeks on Friday and I probably stopped them about a week ago.

I was also put on them as a precaution from the RE. Not sure if they are what did the trick (was also on additional vitamins and acupuncture) but this is the most pregnant I have ever been. Great betas by the way!!

I use endometrin with every cycle due to a short luteal phase. I've been told there is no such thing as too much progesterone and it can help prevent a loss if your progesterone drops for any reason in those early weeks. I still had two losses, but I think it helped my twins finally stick this last cycle.

Great news on your betas! I had two early losses already this year so I'm taking BA and Prog. I don't think Prog is really a "medicine" since your body already makes it, you're just providing a little extra support. I never take medications either unless absolutely necessary but I don't wait to regret trying everything I can. I don't want to experience another awful loss. Good luck! Oh and by the way, my prog levels were great the day after my bfp and continued to rise a few days later so I like to think it's helping. I just passed my cp loss milestone! Yay!

My progesterone was 18 at 7dpo and my doctor wanted to see it closer to 25, so I'm on crinone 1x a day. I was not on it for my first two pregnancies (MCs), but I did take it for DD's pregnancy. I don't know for sure if progesterone support was the reason she stuck and the others didn't, but I'm not going to chance it again. It definitely can't hurt, it can only help. And like some of the other ladies said, it makes me feel like I'm doing everything I can to keep this baby growing.

Thanks ladies, you're right I wouldn't want to think I didn't do everything I could this time around if it didn't work out this time.

Side note- @kalynn12‌ are you still doing acupuncture? I love it and don't want to give it up but was going to ask my OB about this.

@taberbtb, I am once a week through the end of 1st and then as needed. At the beginning she focused on blood flow to help the baby stick (kept saying I have thick blood ?

) and now it's to help with my morning sickness and other symptoms. There are points that need to be avoided during pregnancy so as long as the acupuncturist has experience with pregnant women then it should be fine. Plus with my exhaustion it has given me an extra nap time

I was on progesterone suppositories until 36 weeks with DS. I do have very low progesterone and even take that after I while trying to conceive. I believe my progesterone level was a 2 without them.

As my doctor says... They can't hurt!

I've had two losses and my OB has me takin progesterone. When he tested it, it was very high, but he wants to be sure it stays that way. He said it can't hurt. I feel better taking them (psychologically). It makes me feel good knowing I'm doing everything humanly possible for this baby.

I was also put on them proactively. My RE had the same opinion...it can't hurt and might help. I would call if you have questions and ask whether or not he feels they are necessary.

I'm on them too. My levels were 13.6 then 15.3 then 13.8. Doctor put me on 50mg twice per day and my level only went up to 14.8 in a week so I'm upped to 100mg twice per day. Fun times.

My OB was pretty adamant about not believing that progesterone supps can sustain a pregnancy; he was/is convinced that the progesterone is just a symptom of an unhealthy pregnancy and not the cause of one. He was willing to write me a prescription if my progesterone was "low" but it was 25 at 14DPO so he said there was no need. Honestly, I'd think 20 is fine, but if you do end up taking the supplements, maybe consider taking the oral ones instead of the suppositories since the supps are so much more of a hassle.

I asked about oral progesterone vs suppositories and the receptionist said no the only ones they recommend are the crinone supps. These are also the only ones they sell in their office. This sounded suspicious to me. I got enough to last me 2 weeks and I made my intake appt with the midwife today so I will be discussing this with her. Thanks!
