I just had my 14 week appointment with my OB and she let me know that because of family history, she wants us to schedule a fetal echocardiogram for around week 20. I'm not shocked by this advice, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has any experience with this procedure... how does it work? How long are you there for? Pros? Cons?
Re: Fetal Echocardiogram
Edit: words are hard
Can I ask what the history is?
Please keep us posted
Both of my siblings and my niece have congenital heart defects which were discovered shortly after birth (involving the aorta, aortic valve, and ventricles). The echo has to be done at a nearby Children's Hospital....so I'm thinking/hoping that it's going to be a really high tech ultrasound performed by a doctor as opposed to a tech.
I'll keep you all posted. Hopefully it will all be fine.
Edit: Updated to 15+6... apparently my brain hasn't caught up with how far along I am.
It really was just an extended ultrasound where the tech only really looked at the heart and flow of blood. Besides being uncomfortable laying on my back for a hour and a half, it was painless and baby girl did a great job!
Thanks for all of your kind words :-)
I have to have one in a couple of weeks! Glad to hear it's easy peasy!
