NBR: 10 year anniversary gift for DH

Our 10 year is in early September - 6 weeks before EDD so no plane travel (per my doctor) - and I need some gift ideas!  We aren't fancy or big party people so I already tossed the idea of a big party.  Originally we were planning on going to Bora Bora and renewing our vows but this LO sort of delayed those plans!  I cried a little when I had to stop planning that one!

Would it be strange to just sort of ignore this one and maybe do our trip next year?  I just don't even know what to do - nothing compares to Bora Bora!

Does anyone have any adorable and inexpensive suggestions?  One that I came up with a photo frame that says Then & Now and putting a wedding picture in for "then" and a family picture in the "now"

  • Hi, I love your idea of the Then & Now frame.  There's a pic on Pinterest of something similar where the couple is holding up a chalkboard sign that says "10 years later."  That would be cute with your bump.
As long as your H is on board, nothing wrong with postponing a trip that you guys really want to take until you are able next year.  Maybe you could go away someplace close for the night/weekend for a mini anniversary/baby moon trip instead.
    Good luck!

Our 10 year anniversary is in July.  We don't usually get each other presents, just celebrate together.  We are going to go out to a nice restuarant and spend the night at a nice hotel.  It'll be the first time I've been away from DD overnight, so that's sort of my present to DH.  :)
  • My 10 anniversary is in early September also. I already told DH that I would like to do something special. Just the 2 of us before he gets here.
H said okay. Just have not done much planning. We also don't give gifts. I do like the idea of a then and now picture.

  • The then and now frame is a nice idea. I did a 100 reasons why I love you craft book (search it on google and you'll see all kinds of ideas around that) last year - not for 10th, but he seemed to appreciate it more than my more expensive gift. You could also do a small piece of jewelry with something engraved. I did an inexpensive pocket watch one year - with a nice engraving - he wears it only once in awhile but its a memorable keepsake.

This year, we're actually skipping presents and instead spending money on getting some of the art we have sitting in a closet framed to hang in the house.

If he's a beer drinker - they have beer of the month clubs too :)

  • @jalara48 you asked for it!  He is a hands on guy mostly, he loves the Mets and Giants (football not baseball!) is a big paintball player and likes motorcycles.  He works as a maintenance technician (fixes the machines) after spending years as a mechanic.  We met at school in Tampa and he proposed at my college graduation party.  The first real trip we took together (that didn't involve going to family) was a trip to Wisconsin (Lake Geneva).  He said I love you to me on my birthday - we had been dating for less than a week!

We are going to a Mets game this summer so that idea is already used up!  He just spend a weekend (his birthday) playing in a big painball scenario game not far from us so that is done too!  I would love something sentimental for him but he is so damn hard to read that I never know what he likes and doesn't - even after 10 years of marriage!

He is also a huge softie for animals.  We have 2 cats and a dog that I would be happy to not have but he wants more!

  • My H is hard to read after 10 years also. I feel bad that I did not get him much for his birthday. That being said I did spend time with him. Which is what we both needed.

Can you see about getting tickets to a football game before you are due. Then see if you could get something written out in the jumbo tron the day you are there.

  • Hmmmm.....the Giants are opening at the Lions.....do you think a car trip from Chicago to Detroit would be ok at 35 weeks?  That is like a 6 hour drive.  Hmmmmmm

  • Good options. IMO a kitten and and baby are not a good match. The other two sound like great ideas. Talk to his paintball friends to get an idea of what he wants.
