Antibiotics this early on???

So some of you who were on TTGP with me during my TWW remember that I mentioned I got in an accident at around 8 DPO. Well, it left me with a hurt knee, scrapes and bruises. One scrape on my foot is particularly deep and I cleaned it really well, put antibiotic ointment on it, covered it, etc. Well, it was so deep that I think infection was nearly inevitable. I noticed on Monday that it was red around the edge, throbbing, etc. I tried to put a stronger antibiotic ointment on it, but it just wasn't getting any better. Finally last night I went to the ER. They said it wasn't that bad of an infection because I had been doing the right things, but it is in fact in need of antibiotics. Well, they gave me Keflex, which they said is pregnancy safe. It still makes me very nervous this early on. Has anyone had any experience here being on antibiotics this early on in a pregnancy?? I'm not taking anything for pain because all you can take is Tylenol, and that works like a sugar pill for me.

I got really sick around 9 weeks last time, I went on a z-pack and it was fine. I called my OB though and they were the one to prescribe it. Maybe you could just call and double check!

I had strep when I was about 5w last time, and took a z-pack with no problem.

I had bacterial vaginosa causing spotting at 4 weeks and they put me on clindamycin. There are many abx that are safe in pregnancy!

I actually think an untreated infection is more scary in pregnancy, and would take the antibiotics. I've not needed any, but have known people that had to in pregnancy

@MusicFanatic that's my thoughts exactly too. I can't NOT take the medication, and I just pray all goes well.

I was like 10 weeks with dd and took the zpack and I know I took it with ds as well both for sinus infections (summer babies so 1st tri and 2nd was winter time). I also took the flu meds I forget what it is called with ds. I was so sick I didn't have time to really think about it. It's always scary to take meds. and I am one to only half trust my doctor and I'm the queen of calling the midwives AND my own doctor to double check (sometimes even the pediatrician to triple check), but I'm nuts!

I just got put on some for a double ear infection. It was at the same appointment I took the pregnancy test.

I'm on Keflex now for a crazy splinter in my finger. But anyway, I am on it and it is fine.

it wasn't this early but i had a UTI around 11w with DS and was on antibiotics. i agree with @MusicFanatic that an untreated infection is way scarier to me during pregnancy than taking the medication, but calling your OB to verify is probably a good idea anyway, so they can put it on your chart.

I'm on Keflex as well for bronchitis and it's been stressing me out so bad! I hate having to take meds so early on (i am 5 and 1/2 weeks) and on top of it all it doesn't seem to be helping that much. I am taking 250mg three times a day. To me it seems like a lot and I wish i could stop but I figure it's more important that I'm healthy especially since breathing is involved!

I got my BFP Thursday and developed mastitis Sunday. I'm on Keflex too. Sucks we're all going through this but at least we aren't alone! Hope everyone feels better soon!!

Well, I am finished with antibiotics as of today! So here's to a healthy remainder of my pregnancy!
