What say you S12 - waking a sleeping child

Our friends just told us they got a sitter for the kiddos (one of their parents, who we trust) for Saturday night. The problem is, we are not actually staying at our friends house. So we would have to put L down there, then pick her up and take her to our hotel and hope she goes back to sleep.

This would be so much easier if carseats weren't so necessary! ha.

FWIW, we get in on Friday night and may be interrupting her sleep that night as well. So, go out or DH goes and I stay in with the kiddo?

Either way, LO will be ok--maybe groggy and crabby the next day, but it's not going to kill her. So I'd ask yourself which you would rather deal with--and answer all questions assuming she's going to have a hard time going back to sleep, lol. Would you rather have the time out with DH and your friends, or would you rather have the sleep and a more pleasant tyke the next day? There are times I'd take the former and times I'd take the latter.

I would go. I always try to preserve her sleep as much as possible, but this is a special occasion.

I'd go. But Sawyer is pretty easy to move from one place to the other once she's sleeping.

We have always had to travel with the kids due to SD's and we just have to make do. Which means sometimes we have to stay out later or move the kids around after bedtime. It can be difficult sometimes but you just need to do what you need to do. She will be ok regardless, just maybe a little less pleasant.

I would go. Realistically my kid wakes herself occasionally at night and is able to get back to sleep. I think that getting to hang out with friends you don't often see with a trusted babysitter is one of those occasions where me having some fun is worth the risk of my kid sleeping poorly.

If we were home I would have no issue, the only hesitation is that I have to move her from bed to the carseat and back to bed. Eh - she will just take a good nap on Sunday and all will be fine. It will be the perfect opportunity for me to sleep off a hangover too! ha.

We do this to poor Sawyer all the time. Sometimes Emma has dance until 8:30 so S falls asleep for the night around 8:15. Then we put her in the car, which wakes her up, but she goes back to sleep once the car is moving. She wakes up again once we get to the house, but usually goes back to sleep in about 5-10 minutes. It's not easy being kid # 3.

I'd go! Mine generally fall back asleep in a reasonable amount of time, especially if it's night.

I would go. Usually DS is pretty good about getting in/out of the carseat when he's sleeping. I'd just put her in PJ's before she goes down and hope she falls asleep back at the hotel. I will say we had a harder time getting him back to sleep at the hotel than in the car itself. It took some mommy cuddles and rocking to get him back to out cold. GL and have fun!

The kids fall asleep at the Grandparent's house when we go out at night. It is never big deal to transport them back home. Sometimes we have to redo the bedtime routine and sit in their room for a bit. Other times they pass out on my shoulder when carrying them in and I can put them right into bed.

Go out, you deserve it and she will be fine. Tell them to run her ragged so she's super passed out to make the transition easier for you.

Sage is unscathed by waking her. She will usually stay awake during the whole ride, not make a peep, and then I tuck her back into bed.

I wouldn't worry.

We've had to wake Nola plenty of times if we're hanging out at the ILs past her bedtime or have to come back and get her for some reason. She always goes right back to sleep when we get home.
