Itchy hands & feet

Does anyone else have extremely itchy hands and feet, especially at night? I am waiting for a call back from the dr office but I've read very alarming things about this including, high risk of a stillbirth. Does anyone else know anything about this? Thanks!

My friend is being induced today at 37w2d because of this. I forgot what it's called but she was put on medication to make her levels go down and it didn't work. And not to be rude and scare you but yes those are some causes and that is why she is being induced so early. Hopefully your doc can get you a blood test ASAP to see if your levels (of what I don't know) are high or not and go from there.

It's called Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP). And it can be very serious, I have had a couple of friends who have had to be induced because of this.  I also know from their perspective that many doctors do not have much information on the tests needed to determine this.

I think it's a blood test to look at bile salts in the liver.

I went to the dr today and requested blood work for this. I don't think I was taken seriously bc she kept saying this is really rare but we will do blood work anyway. Even if it comes back ok I think I am going to make them keep checking it each week. From what I've read, your levels can change quickly within an hour. I will be 34 weeks tomorrow and my next reg appt is next Friday. It will take a week for the results if the blood work. :-(

I hope it turns out to be nothing. But it's jot something to take lightly and that would annoy me that she didn't seem to take you seriously.

I've just had really itchy ankles at night. Nothing else. Told my dr and she didn't seem concerned but mr. google warned me of cholestasis so I will keep monitoring symptoms for myself and request bloodwork if it worsens (or hands start as well).

The three girls I know who have had this all were pregnant with boys. One of them had to beg her doctor to do the tests.

I hope it turns out to be nothing, but better safe than sorry. And yes you should continue to have tests done if you continue to itch.  I also think there is an ICP support group on facebook that may be helpful.

Get the test! I have cholestasis of pregnancy and was itching so badly at night (hands, feet, scalp, entire body) that I couldn't sleep. It happened to a lesser degree during the day. I take ursodiol 3 times daily to control my bile salts and am being induced at 37 weeks to prevent stillbirth.

I just went to today to be tested for this. I've been extremely itchy all over but lately it's mostly my scalp. Some nights it's so bad I can't sleep. I hope your results come back ok!

Thanks for all of your replies. I've been sick with yet another sinus infection and fever so I haven't been on here lately. I'm still waiting on the blood work to come back. This is my third pregnancy and third boy and never had this with the others. I will be 35 weeks in Thursday. It's been off and on itching mainly at night. Hopefully it's nothing but we will see. Thanks again.
