Picky Eater?

So here lately DD has been so picky and it seems like all she wants to eat is cheese and yogurt occasionally. Any other mamas with picky eaters and if so what have you had success with. She will eat chicken and scrambled eggs. She boycotts all vegetables or just throws it in the floor to the dog. Im starting to get frustrated because she is so small. I know they say she wont starve herself and will eat when she gets hungry. Really enough is enough DD just please eat something. I feel bad because it seems like she should be taking in more food than she does. She definitely doesnt love food like me.

Re: Picky Eater?

  • Have you tried smoothies? I know my SIL had a point with my niece where she just wanted to eat cheese, so she would melt it on top of food so that she had to eat the food and couldn't just pick it off.

  • DD is this way too. I'm pretty sure it's a phase because she used to eat everything. Her pediatrician said just keep feeding her as we normally would (she eats what we eat), and eventually she'll start eating again. I do give her a small fruit & veggie smoothie every afternoon as a snack, so at least she's getting some nutrients!

  • DD goes back and forth, sometimes she's like the best eater ever. And then when she's about to get a tooth she won't eat anything for a couple days.

DD also loves yogurt and cheese, and she's super picky! Just keep offering healthy foods. She really will eat!

Smoothies are a good idea, and we recently started giving her vitamins, per our pedi.

  • I second the melted cheese thing. I make steamed veggies, ground meat and quinoa and melt cheese into it so that it sticks together enough to be able to pick it up. I have learned that DD will eat almost anything with cheese involved :-)

I'm right there with you. It makes me nervous and drives me crazy!

DD still has a very limited list of foods she will eat and has ever eaten. She has never eaten a vegetable that hasn't been in puree form or hidden in a muffin/waffle. The only fruits she will eat are bananas and sometimes grapes and strawberries. She will only eat eggs if they are in a wrap and it has to be my wrap. If I make her her own she won't eat it. Same for grill cheese. She will sometimes drink smoothies, very hit and miss. She loves cheese and yogurt.

I offer other options at every meal and it always goes untouched or gets thrown on the floor. She refuses to try new things. Part of me is getting worried by this. Its very frustrating.

  • All our babies sounds exactly the same @DCKate‌ @katrine_05‌. Its very frustrating and the pediatrician wants me to give her pediasure because she didnt gain any weight from 12-15 months. Of course she wont takethe ppediasure either.

  • Don't be so quick to label her a picky eater already, this is normal 1 year old behavior.  I think a lot of parents just give up at this age beause they won't eat certain things and just never try them again.  that is the wrong thing to do.  Keep offering little bits of the healthy stuff and eventually she'll try it and eat it again.  It's probably just a phase.  And they'll also eat when they are hungry, they won't stare.
