My DD is two weeks old tomorrow and nursing is going well except one thing. At the end of her session she will pop off and start crying. Then continue to pull off, relatch, suck suck suck, cry. Repeat over and over. I've tried burping, offering the other side, etc. What I think is going on is that she wants to comfort suck and is mad more milk is coming out. I've tried a paci and she hates it (tried multiple kinds too). also have tried other ways to comfort her when she gets to this point (stand up and bounce/shush/paci no paci/different holds/swaddled not swaddled etc.) all the while still eating her hands, screaming and rooting, etc. like she still wants to eat or suck, but if I put her back on it's back to the same latch, suck suck suck pull off, cry, repeat. Eventually she will just give up or be comforted by one of the tactics and go to sleep. She does this at pretty much every nursing session. FYI I am ok with comfort sucking or whatever it takes to settle her, just can't figure out what's going on. She has not been spitting up and is gaining weight, plenty of wets and dirties, BMs are normal seedy yellow. TIA for any thoughts or ideas?!
Re: Decode this newborn behavior...
Have you tried different nursing positions/holds. Or no boppy vs boppy.
