What should NAP Schedule be?

My son wakes at about 5am...he then naps 2 hours after that (7am) and again at 10am.  Then his last nap is around noon.  I feel like that leaves a big gap until bedtime (6:30pm) and I'm wondering if any of you know what nap time should be like?  I put him down based on when he seems tired.

Re: What should NAP Schedule be?

  • My DS wakes up between 630-730 and then usually takes a long nap from 930-1230 and then takes two small afternoon naps usually around 2-245 and then again from 430-5 and then goes to bed between 730-830pm. Not sure how old your DC is, but my best advice is to just let DC sleep when he wants. My DS is just starting to get into a routine...

  • DD normally gets up around 5am to feed and goes back down untill 830ish. She takes a morning nap around 1130/12:00 for about 45 minutes and then goes down for a two hour nap between 2:30 and 3:30. It works out pretty well for us. She has been doing this for about a month or so.
  • If that works for him and he doesn't get super cranky, why change it?  Every baby is different, so just go with what he wants.  If he needed a nap, you wouldn't be able to keep him awake if you tried.  My DD has a different time schedule, but similar pattern where she naps every few hours during the day, then has a longer awake span before bed.

  • Until he's STTN (later morning then 5 am) you will not be able to really get a set nap schedule because of the feeding, he will be more tired since getting up and going back down again.  Once my DS STTN until 7 - 8 am, then I finally could get him on a good nap schedule. He takes a short nap in the morning about 10 am for 45 mn, then a long nap at 2 pm for 2.5 - 3 hours, he then gets his last feeding about 8:30 pm and goes to bed at 9:30 pm.

Have you tried giving his last feeding later?  6;30 seems very early. Maybe then he won't get up for you at 5 am and then he will go right to 7 or 8 and be able to get on a better schedule.
