Episiotomy Healing....

Hi ladies. For anyone that had an episiotomy, how long did it take to stop hurting or being sore? I am only a few days postpartum so I know I have a while to go, but was curious to find out other peoples experiences. I am looking forward to being able to walk normally and sit comfortably!

For me the major pains stopped after day 5 but it still hurts ocassionally at 10 days pp. I have to be careful getting up and down from the couch. The ice packs are the only thing that got me through those first few days. I feel like I could walk forever now that the swelling has gone down but I'm certainly not ready to try it.

  • I had an episiotomy with DS1 and I felt back to normal in about a week.

  • I agree with day 5. I'm on day 7 and it really doesn't hurt at all. But that stinging pain went away around day 5 and the not being able to walk well went away yesterday.

  • For me it took a little bit longer, but I chalk that up to getting an internal hemorrhoid after my first pp BM that put a lot of pressure right underneath where the stitches were. Even now, 16 days pp I still have a little swelling. I'm still using the peri bottle instead of wiping and tucks pads are my best friend. As far as pain sitting or walking though, that was gone within 10 days.

Hope you start feeling better soon!

The real pain stopped after about a week and a half. I'm 3 weeks pp now and there's a little burning/tugging on occasion. I feel recovered but not completely healed if that makes any sense...not planning on dtd for a while yet
  • I'd say about a week for the interns pain to go away. I too had the dreaded hemorrhoids, so those caused some pain for a few extra days. Keep up with the ice packs and the peri bottle though! I'm on day 16 and still use the bottle because I'm afraid to wipe!  :-/

  • Around day 5 or 6 pp, I felt much better. Still tender, but much more mobile.
