Re: Baby's heartbeat

  • I am having a little trouble reading/understanding your post. You started your period last on April 7th? Do you know when you ovulated? Without knowing when you ovulated, who knows how far along you really are until you get a dating ultrasound from a doctor. Until then, I would just go by your LMP.

  • I can't see how you would be further than 6 weeks. If anything, you may not be that far along depending on when you ovulated. The cycle before conception doesn't mean anything.

  • Yes i know my ovulation days :) all i wanted answers to was is it possible to hear baby's heartbeat so early on ? Thanks
  • Ovulation days were 19th - 24th April
  • Yea well it was because i was also told u cant hear the heartbeat til further along so just wondered if with me hearing a heartbeat already if i was further along
  • I agree. I was unclear of what your question was. I too have seen that most home dopplers aren't effective until late in the 1st tri. Sometimes women mistake their heartbeat for the baby's.

  • Surely i wouldnt be able to hear my heartbeat low down in my abdomen ?
  • How did I win" best answer" when she just said that had nothing to do with her question??

I don't want to say nothing is possible - but I remember going into my doctors office at 10 weeks with DD and her telling me not to be scared if we don't hear anything today because it may be too early. We did hear it at 10 weeks, but she made it clear before hand it may be too early. So if I was to venture a guess, 6 weeks is probably too early to hear a heartbeat through a doppler... but I never say never.
  • Are you sure you are hearing baby's heartbeat and not your own? I have a Doppler from my previous pregnancy and was able to first find my sons hb at 8w3d but it took me a good 10-15 minutes of slowly and patiently searching for it. It is very easy to hear your own blood flow from your arteries and uterus down there. The baby's hb will be very fast and almost sound like a horse gallop.

Maybe you are and maybe you aren't. Maybe you heard baby's heartbeat or maybe you heard your heartbeat. I see this is your one and only post on TB so if you plan to stick around, maybe lurk a bit and get a feel for the board.

  • Your ovaries have super powers if they were ovulating for 6 days! Impressive!

6 weeks is probably too early to hear baby's heartbeat. Like PP mentioned, I had my first appt with DD at 10 weeks and my OB couldn't even find her heartbeat on a doppler so we had to have an u/s. There she was, heart beating away.

You are probably hearing your own heartbeat. Which yes you can hear low in your abdomen.

  • Even at my u/s yesterday, they had a hard time differentiating my heartbeat from each of the babies' heartbeats, and they're professionals who do this every day. My guess is you're picking up your own heartbeat.

  • I need more coffee.
I really wish I could drink coffee. Today was the first day I couldn't drink a sip. This aversion makes me so sad.

  • you can't hear the baby's heartbeat at 6w, and if you ovulated between april 17 and 24 (or whatever it was) there's no way you're further along.  there are a lot of blood vessels in the body that have a pulse, one of which is in your abdomen (and yes, you can pick that up on a doppler).

  • I need more coffee.
This baby has decided that mommy is no longer allowed to have coffee or else. I'm so jealous right now...
    I'm down to 1 cup :(
I have a small aversion to it..  but I can force one down. It's the smell that bothers me the most.
But some threads make me want to drink.. and since I can't, well.. the coffee will do.

  • Maybe the OP was asking if maybe she is pregnant from the February cycle?
