getting used to monthly appointments

Please tell me I'm not the only anxiety ridden one here. I'm 14 weeks today, and up until this point I've somehow managed to get myself into the doctor every 2 weeks. I just feel better that way. I feel as if I'm running on blind faith going a whole entire month without seeing or hearing baby. I know I need to get over this and just bide my time like everyone else ... anyone have any pointers on making it easier? I am a FTM so go easy on me please. :) I'm sure after the first go around it's probably a lot less stressful

  • Totally agree with the doppler idea but you're also getting close to being able to feel the baby. I think I started feeling my son (flutters) around 15ish weeks and full kicks by 19 weeks. Once you get to that stage, it really helps ease the anxiety. Hope that helps. :)
  • Ditto to what PP aaid about feeling baby move. Not much longer and you will feel better.
And ditto to what @missnacholover‌ said about frequent visits. I have my u/sounds at a MFM office and then all the regular visits at my ob's office and I swear they can never coordinate to have it all in one day so I have to be seeing someone all the time... plus they seem to drain me of a pint of blood every time i go. Ughh. I miss the way everything was done last time around... A lot less work then.
  • I'm a little weary of the dopplers and my husband STRONGLY urges me not to get one b/c he knows if I can't find heartbeat I will freak out. I've always had some extra padding on my tummy too, don't know if that matters or not! LOL Thanks for the encouragement ladies, I feel better! I hope I get to start feeling baby soon, can't wait for that!!

Just a question- I can't recall when the two week appts start? Is that third tri? And then we love to weekly at like 36 weeks? I know it will be dif at each office but I thought there was kinda a norm

Thank you @FhSTAR81‌ my doc gave me so much info that first "real" visit some of it when in one ear and out the other. I just remembered thinking that what she said had seemed in line with something id read
  • With my son I went every two weeks in the first tri, then most of 2nd tri was every 4 weeks (which is only 3 appointment) but you will also have your anatomy scan in there. Then in 3rd tri you go back to every 2 weeks. By the end of it you will hate going :)

  • I understand! Since I am not pregnant, we have to ride the "no news is good news" train.
Our last appointment was April 24th and our next one isn't until June 2nd. SO LONG!

  • My husband almost hid my doppler when it came in the mail.   He was also terrified I wouldn't be able to find the heartbeat.  However, I found it within 5 minutes and now I know where baby hangs out and I can find it within a minute or so.  I have a TON of anxiety so I know exactly how you feel.  The doppler helped me so much... but then again, pp are right we will start to feel baby kicks soon so that will also help and maybe the $50 isn't worth it at this point.

  • I feel this exact same way. I had an excellent 12 week appt last week and don't go back until june 11. I felt relieved for a few days after my appt but now am worried again
  • Like other PP's said, hopefully you'll start to feel the baby soon. This is my 3rd and I'm 15 weeks, I've been feeling him for the past week, not every day though. Usually when I lay down at night to go to sleep and everything is dark and quiet I can feel him.
  • I felt similarly when dd was an infant. She ended up getting a liver infection when she was 2 months old and before it was officially diagnosed we were at the dr every week. Then it became every other week. Then once a month, then it was back to the normal, which happened to be 3 months I her 1 year, then 6 months to 18 month appt! It seemed sooooo long between appts, that even though she was healing and clearly getting better, I was going crazy! Just try to remind yourself that the doctor would only see you more often if something was wrong. And before you know it you'll be 8 months and going in every other week again!
  • Totally normal.  Before you know it you'll be going every 2 weeks and then once a week.  Soon you be feeling that baby moving and grooving which eases a lot of anxiety.

  • It's normal. I agree with the doppler suggestion. I have a cheap one from amazon that cost 25 bucks and I have been hearing my baby since 11 weeks 4 days. It really helps ease my mind (even though I know things can still be wrong even if you hear the HB)

  • I had weekly appointments in my first trimester, but my next won't be for a month. I'm thankful I have my Doppler. I think that will give me peace of mind.

I'm a STM and I'm right there with ya.  With my twins, I was seen by the MFM and OB each month; it averaged about every 2 weeks with an ultrasound every time.  I think I'm going to go crazy between now and my anatomy scan.  Ditto go getting a doppler, though.  I didn't have one with my twins since I was always at the doctor a ton.  I broke down around 12 weeks and got one this time, though.  Helps my sanity!

  • I feel the same way as you. Also FTM. I just has my appointment and we only listens to the heartbeat using the Doppler. After this, my next appointment isn't until the end of June (ugh) where I get my anatomy scan. I really hope I can feel the baby soon so I'll feel more at ease. I'm currently 16wk1d and having trouble discerning kicks from gas bubbles, haha. My OB did mention that the placenta is located around the front of my uterus, so might take longer to feel the baby.

  • OP, I know how you feel. I had almost weekly or bi-weekly appointments from 5-13 weeks due to my previous losses, so now that I'm waiting about a month for the next one, it's definitely a little nerve-wracking. I don't have a Doppler... I'm just going to trust that everything is fine and baby is healthy and happy in there!

  • I wish I could get in that often, I saw my family doctor on March 17th but have yet to see/meet my ob yet. Haven't seen anyone since... It's driving me nuts.
  • I know how you feel..I'm expecting twins so I'm used to being seen every two wks. Now I will just be getting an US once a month. I agree with the rest of the ladies about the doppler. I purchased one after a scare I had a few wks back. I was finally able to find the HBs last wk at 13 wks (I'm a lil chunky so it might have been because if that lol) and now I can find the HBs within a minute or two. Definitely helps ease my mind.
