Welcome Baby Playlist

I've been working on my music for the big day.  I'm using soft music with water noises, like you would hear at a spa, for the laboring process to help with relaxation.  For the intense pushing time period I just want quiet focus, no music to distract me.  Where I am getting a little stuck is my Welcome Baby Playlist.  I want the first song our baby ever hears to be the Hawaiian version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World, it just seems like the happiest most peaceful song ever to me.  Then I've got a few other songs of varying types like Lullabye by Billie Joel, Sweet Child of Mine by GnR, I'll Stand by You by Carrie Underwood, Halo by Beyonce, I hope You Dance by Leann Womak, as well as a couple of songs special for DH and I, Wouldn't It Be Nice by the Beach Boys and I Do (Cherish You) by Mark Wills.  What kind of happy, upbeat, peaceful or sweet music that you would like to play for your new baby bonding time?

Edited for my crappy proofreading skills....

  • thats a a really good point, i hadnt thought of it that way.  I like associating special songs with special moments, maybe I'll just have the first song to have as our special song then quiet bonding time.

  • How would you get it to start playing right as baby is born? I'm guessing h, DH and the doctor/midwife/nurse are all going to be busy, are you going to have a doula/mom of someone set up to start it? Just curious.

  • At some point I plan on humming/singing Celine Dion's version of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face".  Simply because I think the song sums up how I'm going to feel the first time I actually see his precious body in my arms.  I considered doing this as well, but then I was like the PP said - who is going to turn the music on?  Am I REALLY going to give a crap when I'm awestruck by the emotions/feelings/everything of seeing our child for the first time??  Probably not...

That being said, I hope it works out how you envision it and creates a beautiful memory for you all.

I'm with PPs... Worrying about changing the music once baby is born sounds to me like something you really won't care about in the moment. And, don't forget, it won't be the first music baby hears. Your baby has been hearing all the music you listen to since pretty early on.

  • I loved having quiet bonding time with just DD, DH and I when she was born.  Even if I had wanted music I guarantee I would have forgotten all about it in the moment.  Nothing wrong with it if that's what you want though.

Now having some nice music to play once I moved from the L&D room to the hospital room where we stayed for a couple nights would be a nice option.  Not something I'll probably take the time to do (I'm lazy) but if someone did it for me I'm sure I'd like it, lol.  :)

  • Fwiw, I think you can definitely establish a quiet, sweet song that is "your" song with baby and it doesn't have to be right at birth. For example, our friend sings the same song to his song every night before bed. "American girl" will always be my song with my mom and I know it's not the first thing I heard.
