Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley is a shell of himself -- looking shockingly frail today as he leaned on his fiancee for support ... days after admitting he nearly died from years of hardcore drinking.  

Deryck had to be held up by Jocelyn Aguilar (left) and another woman during a walk in Los Angeles. 

On Friday, Deryck revealed he'd been laid up in a hospital bed for a month, and confessed on his blog... "the reason i got so sick is from all the hard boozing i’ve been doing over the years. it finally caught up to me."

Deryck says his liver and kidneys collapsed, and docs have told him if he has one drink he will die.

The damage is obvious when you remember how Deryck looked in his heyday with Avril Lavigne.

    Holy moly, I didn't even recognize him in this picture. Wow. I hope he can stay away, obviously his life depends on it but that doesn't mean he will be able to. Tragic.

    There's another article about his hospital stay with pictures of him in the ICU.  He says he is "scared straight" and was sedated an entire week.  He's so lucky to be alive (collapsed liver and kidney?!).  I'm really rooting for him and others out there.  If anyone's interested...

    Those are some dramatically different pictures. Seriously doesn't even look like the same person.

    Yeah, I didn't want to post them directly to here (seems...disrespectful) but he is being open about it and blogging so I think he wants to share his story.  I admire that and I think seeing pictures does make it more real to people.

    It's very tragic, and unfortunately we've experienced this in real life with my MIL. About 4 years ago she was basically on her death bed with liver/kidney failure and miraculously survived. She still looks/is terribly frail (we won't even let her hold DD unless she's sitting down).  Unfortunately we also think she's drinking again though she's denied it. Her doctor has told her the same thing - drinking will 100% kill her because her liver is already functioning so little.

    Same here, except he died from alcoholism.  He was found dead in a motel room.  Sorry you are being affected right now.
