2nd Trimester

15w5d and still nauseous

I feel really awful today - the nausea is unbearable.  I'm thinking of going home.  I haven't yet told my work I'm pregnant.  The only thing keeping me here is that I don't get paid maternity leave, so every sick day I take means one less day of getting paid on maternity leave.

I felt fine over the weekend, but Friday was a bad day.  Not every day is bad, but the ones that are bad are really bad, and I can't figure out a pattern or a trigger.  I am worried I will have this for 25 more weeks.  I'm not sure if I can stand it.  I don't vomit, at least, but the nausea is pretty bad.

Did anyone have nausea into their 2nd tri?  Did it eventually clear up?

Re: 15w5d and still nauseous

  • I'm having a little every now and then (especially in the mornings and sometimes around dinnertime).
I'm 14w6d.  I've read some women have it all throughout their pregnancies.  Ick.

    Zofran really, really helps me.

    I hope you feel better!!

I was very nauseous into the second tri, and was still throwing up every other day.  Thank goodness things turned around at 16w 5d I finally had a "normal" day.  I still have small bouts of nausea here and there, but its not all day and its not every day.  Hope you have some relief soon.
  • I'm still nauseous, worse in the evenings ... my cousin had it until 16 weeks and then turned around... I think it's pretty common. I hear you about the work thing, I'm in the same boat! Dont wanna leave ever because then it takes away from paid "maternity" leave which is really just FMLA here

I'm still experiencing some pretty bad nausea at 16 weeks. Have you tried keeping lemon or mint scented items around? It might sound silly but I found that helped a little in addition to Zofran.
  • Have you found anything that helps ease your nausea so that you can make it to the day? Sea bands? Hard candies? Ginger ale? Maybe you can try keeping some of that at work with you to help.

  • I hate to tell you this but nausea never goes away. But it does get better. Your going to have good days, & your going to have bad days. But it will never actually go away. I threw up my entire pregnancies & I am expecting the same thing for this one. The only good thing about my 2nd tri is that at least I am able to eat. Compared to the 1st tri which consists of throwing up, water. air, anything I swallow, & stomach acid from the lack of food in my body.
  • Still sick 18w2d. Everyone keeps telling me I will feel better soon. Whatevs

  • I was sick until 22 weeks with my first, I think, I don't remember the exact time it got better. This time around most nausea was better by 16 weeks, though I will occasionally still throw up.  I never discovered a specific trigger, though I did find that keeping heartburn in check helped a lot.  Hope you're feeling better soon.

  • Every pregnancy is different. At 24 weeks my nausea has most definitely gone away, hopefully it will for you too!
  • Yes - it has gotten better, but still persists intermittently.  I got a prescription for Zofran in first tri, and still use it only occasionally if it's a really bad day and I need to stay at work.  Also, if you haven't tried Sea-Bands, those helped me also, especially in first tri.

  • I had it my entire pregnancy with my twins. It sort of lessened in the 2nd tri around 16-18 weeks but it was always still there. Then it was back in the 3rd tri. This pregnancy it subsided at 12-13 weeks and really hasn't bothered me too much since. I have little waves here and there but it's nothing like the first time. If it's really bad, talk to your OB.

  • What everyone is saying is the sad honest truth :/ The nausea doesn't ever go away. Don't believe google when it says it magically disappears and all that bull. It's here to stay. You just learn to cope with it and eventually the nausea feels like part of the routine. You throw up and keep it on movin. Cause there's really nothing you can do. Even the almighty Zofran couldn't save me.

Thanks everyone. I felt absolutely horrible yesterday. I went home and slept and realized that I have the flu. DS and DH have now fallen too. I can stand the mild to moderate nausea I still sometimes have but yesterday was brutal. I am actually glad it was from illness. I feel better today although I am weak

  • I was pretty miserably sick until about week 17ish. One day I found I was hungry and could eat normal things! I was so excited. If I let myself get too hungry I get a teeny but nauseated, but it is basically gone:). Hang in there!

  • I was really sick until about 18 weeks. I am 20w2d now and no more nausea!! Hang in there it does get better!
  • I was sick until 20 weeks. My OB prescribed Zofran which helped a lot. When I felt sick at work, I would eat crackers and suck on peppermints.. It got me through the day until I could go home and sleep. Closer to 20 weeks, my morning sickness became really predictable and limited to only once in the morning. It gets better... hang in there.
