Time of day for bday party

Just trying to think about what's the best time of day for a bday party. Do you find that you will get more participants earlier in the afternoon or later such as 3:30-4? I am also thinking on a Saturday. This is mostly family and some kids.

Re: Time of day for bday party

  • At that age, I find it hard to judge - nap times get in the way.  My daughter had a late nap at that age (2:30-4:00pm), so we missed a lot of parties.  Now that she's not napping, I prefer the 2pm-ish time frame (after the kids have had lunch, but before dinner too).  Otherwise, I'd aim for mid-day (12:30?)

  • Thats whats tricky the nap thing. My son usually naps until 3:30ish. I was thinking a 4oclock party but not sure if thats a drag for most people. I was thinking on a Sat. it wouldnt be too bad but thats why I am asking for opinions. Thanks again.

I say pick the time that is best for your own kid and their nap. For us a 12 noon party works with lunch then cake and presents. We push there nap back by 1 hr or so and they are fine with that. Most of our guests have kids a few months apart from our kids and they are usually also ok with pushing back nap by an hour.

  • I've had all my kids parties at 4pm after naps but we include dinner.  My kids nap around 1245 so lunch is tough and afternoon is out of the question.  I find most people can make that time work especially since it's family and the parents are staying.  When they get a bit older I think earlier is better but at this age naps trump everything.

I guess it depends on your area. Around here, especially during the summer, it gets hot. We've been to several birthday  parties that start at 10:30. I kind of like it b/c it's before nap and lunch.

  • My DD's 2nd birthday party is 9-12, outside at a park.  We're expecting most people to show up closer to 9:30-10.

Daycare naps are 12-2ish, and on weekends my DD will often nap later, so I figured she could nap after the party.

  • I'd go with 10:30 am or 4 pm. Daycare typically does nap from 12-2 around here and many kids nap from 1-3.

We've always done this and it has always worked out well.

  • As a parent id like as early as possible so I could do something after and it isnt mid day so I have no time to do something before or after. 11 would be best for us... the place I am having my daughters bday party doesnt open till 12.... blah!

We always have done 10-12 with lunch and cake. This year, that didn't work out and DS is older so we did 4-6 and that always worked. Honestly, parties between 12 and 3 have always been a pain for us due to naps.
