Pregnant after a Loss

First u/s & heartbeat...earliest you can get it?

Hi everyone! I am just wondering how far along you have to be to get your first u/s & hear the heartbeat? With my pregnancy w/ my DD 6+ years ago, I was 10 weeks, and I was pregnant last year, and I think they did it at about 8 weeks (there was no heartbeat). Since I am so nervous about this one, I want to hear that heartbeat ASAP! Do you all know if 8 weeks the earliest?

Yes, it's around 6 weeks that the heart start beating.  My appointment at 6w4d showed two flickering HBs.

Congrats on your BFP! Most OBs wait until 8 or 10 weeks unless there is a reason to check earlier. If you let yours know your history or concerns you may get an earlier appt. I went in at 6 wks to rule out ectopic (which I've had previously). I would strongly advise waiting until into the 6th week to make sure there is a hb to see. It's just too scary if you go in too early and have to wait to see later...

I saw a heartbeat at 5 weeks 6 days but they said that it was rare and do advise waiting until 6.5 weeks or so. I was being seen by an RE so that's probably why it was so early. My OB doesn't see patients or give ultrasounds until 9 or 10 weeks.
  • with my last pregnancy...last year, we had an U/S at 5 weeks and we could see the heart flutter.  Couldn't hear it.  I heard it at 10 weeks by Doppler.

With my MMC, we saw a HB at 6wks4d and it was very low-all I knew was under 100. This time, I had a surprise u/s at 6wks and I was super nervous, but saw a HB (97) and was told that it most likely just started beating. The nurse said it was normal in the 6th week to start seeing it and they look for anything above 90 (normal range tends to be 90-120 that week). Lots of luck to you!!!

Congrats! I think 6 weeks is standard but you may get one earlier to establish the pregnancy is in the uterus. Hb generally can be heard at 6 weeks+. Good Luck!
