I live in Indy, my husband is a big colts fan. Today he asked if I heard about Robert Mathis getting suspended for violating the drug policy - he took clomid when he and his wife were getting fertility treatment. He tried to appeal the suspension, but it was denied. I don't agree with that! Here's the article:

ETA: although, from the sound of this article, I wonder if they were really having 'problems'?

Sketchy, I agree!

But - on the other issue, I don't think clomid should be against the nfl drug policy.

Yeah this whole story is a little sketchy to me. Knowing clomid covers up steroids and any Dr giving a NFL players knows this and any NFL player should know this. Plus isn't clomid for MFI in men? It doesn't give you super sperm and it's not interchangeable for men and women.

I'm call BS about his reasoning.

Thats what I was thinking...either something fishy, or perhaps he has MFI and is embarrassed?

Actually, women can be offered stimulation drugs if the man has mild MFI in order to create more "targets" for poor quality sperm to find. That is an easy way to try to compensate for lower sperm quality. If the wife cannot do that, improving the sperm quality of the man would be the only option and Clomid can be used for that. I'm just saying... If this is a legit medical situation, there would be a lot more going on between him, his wife and their doctor than would be reported in the IF-illiterate press.

I am in Indy, too, and if it were pretty much any other NFL player, I'd be more suspicious.

ETA: One other thing... Yes, in retrospect, he should have gone to the NFL about his MFI & treatment plan, but... Unless you think he is outright lying... He did say he asked the doctor about whether it would cause problems and the doctor said No. He trusted the doctor and combine that with the private nature of IF and probable embarrassment of MFI in a manly football player, I can understand why he did go to officials. The doctor should have said it was a question he was not qualified to answer.

That sounds sketchy. If a woman needs clomid, having the man take it instead won't help. If you are annovulatory or have weak ovulation, all the super sperm in the world probably won't help (I know clomid doesn't even cause super sperm though). Also, if you don't have issues with mfi or testosterone imbalance clomid isn't helpful. Sounds for sure like he is hiding something.
