Now that most are feeding some sort of solid, has anyone's LO had a bad reaction to food?

Re: Food Reactions?

  • I voted ss because lo has so many food allergies that were have determined through bfing trial and error. We haven't tried meats and a bunch of stuff because she's allergic to them. I know I'm supposed to reintroduce them in a few months to see what happens but idk if that's through solids or bm. She does have reactions though :/ starts with a wicked diaper rash
  • Loading the player...
  • just a little diaper rash on her bum after mango.. I guess it's common though :-/ we'll try again in a few months

  • Nope. I was nervous when we tried peanut butter but no reaction! Yay! This baby doesn't get rashes either, which is awesome. Her sister has really sensitive skin and would get bad rashes so this is a welcome difference.

We've had some reaction to squash, but I know it's really acidic, so it could have just been that. I am terrified of trying PB - @Jenball717 - did you do the skin test first or just give some to eat?

  • I put a tiny but on my finger and let her suck on it. Then after an hour or so I did it again with a bit more pb, then again a little later with more. I don't know if that is the most preferred method but I figured if she had a severe allergy then the tiny amount would have caused a reaction. I'm thinking of mixing some into oatmeal as a way to serve it without it being a choking hazard.
  • DD gets a little rash on her cheek when she has had fruit (pears & apples, especially). Our pedi said he's never had a patient with an allergy to pears, and to keep trying them. We haven't yet. What do y'all think? This is right after trying pears for the first time.

  • @Kittymom6‌ that would make me a bit nervous. I would probably wait too.
  • His cheeks have gotten really red after eating avocado so I stopped giving those to him and will try again in a few months. @Jenball717‌ You are so brave to give PB. My pedi said wait until he's at least a year old. I'm not sure if that's just standard or if it's because my little brother is highly allergic to peanuts so he wants to be safe.

  • I also said SS because bananas or anything with bananas make DS throw up. The nurse said it's because bananas are harsh on the stomach so to try it again soon because it's been a good month or more since he had them. We still haven't tried them yet. But I may try it mixed with something else soon.
  • Madeline broke out in a rash that lasted for 3 days after eating avacado. It was the first solid we tried too. Ugh.

  • Thanks for the responses! My mom thought it looked like she had rubbed her face on something, too, but I can't think of anything.

I'm not super worried because pear allergies are not associated with anaphylaxis, but I'll wait a while before trying again.

  • Bananas made her super fussy and gassy. We've tried them twice at least a month apart and same reaction each time so staying away now

  • Oatmeal. It makes him vomit (not spit, full on vomit) and gives him a rash on his face/neck. Last time he couldn't keep anything down for hours and we had to give him pedialyte.

  • Terrible red raw diaper rash after spinach.

  • DS gets pretty fussy after fresh pineapple do I'm pretty sure it gives him heartburn like it does me.

  • Side question: Are babies allowed to have strawberries before the age of 1? My baby bullet doesn't have it being introduced in recipes until after 12 mos.

  • We have done everything; eggs, dairy, pb, strawberries. No reaction to anything. Our pedi said to try everything since if she has an allergy better to know now than find out later. She said start small with typical allergies like for pb give a small tadte the first day. Next day double the amount and the third day give a couple times if no rxn. Worked out for us
  • We did strawberries today, as a matter of fact. The only things our pedi said she wanted off limits before age 1 were peanut butter, honey and eggs. So we're going with that.

  • Im doing peanut butter this week.  He has eggs for breakfast sometimes.  And no problems with any berries/mango/pears.  I honestly give him anything Im eating to try.  He gnawed on a rib yesterday.

  • My pedi said A can eat anything before 1 except honey.

A tried avocados a couple of times and was fine, then the 3rd and 4th time she threw up after them. Proper vomit, not spit up. And projectile too, such fun. I researched this (aka googled it, for my sins) and apparently avovado allergy can be linked to banana allergy (which DH is allergic to) and latex allergy, oddly. Pedi has recommended we avoid bananas and avocados.
  • Scrambled Eggs ... She had hives , sneezing , red ears /nose & spit up what she consumed.

Some suggest it's ok to try eggs early some say no.

I will reintroduce the yoke later on.

@afolske106‌ I'm pretty sure a few bumpies have done strawberries already...
I forgot to mention that bananas gave ds horrible constipation to where he screamed...I blocked that day out of my mind because it was so awful. It's weird to see that other LO's have had adverse reactions to bananas as I thought they were one of the easier first foods to give

DD had bad constipation after eating chicken ... So now I only offer chicken or turkey only twice a week. It is terrible to watch them in pain. :(

  • We've given him so much, something gave him a little bit of a rash on his tummy but I haven't been waiting in between giving new foods so I'm not sure what it was.
