Baby still waking 4+ times a night almost every night

edited May 2014 in December 2013 Moms
Baby is 5 months. She has never slept through the night. With this going on 5 months we are just beyond exhausted and sleep deprived. Last night she was up 4 times. Will this ever stop?!? Lol. We are dying here! Doesn't make for a good case for a second baby.

  • My DD didn't sleep through the night until 14 months.

Omg! She was still getting up 4+ times a night until 14 months?!? Yup we will be one and done. Lol.
  • Now you see why we have kids 10 years apart. :) She only got up once or twice after about 8 months...but it was brutal.

This was us, too! Our infant sleeps better than she does. Every baby is different, as is every phase. Hang in there!

  • Yep. Ours does the same. Usually wakes up every 2 hours through the night then goes like a 3 hour stretch in the early morning.

  • my son did this till he was one! my daughter is almost 5 months and she still wakes up 2x a night

DS1 is 2 and still up at least twice a night. Some kids are just crappy sleepers. It sucks.

Are you giving her a chance to settle herself before going in? LO still wakes up a few times a night, but if I leave him to fuss for a minute or two he goes right back to sleep.

This. DS was a terrible sleeper for about six weeks. He will wake and I discovered if I waited five minutes to go to him he fell asleep again about half the time
. His sleep is getting better now at almost six months

  • Yes we try and let her settle. She will babble and talk loudly. Then if we don't get up she starts screaming bloody murder and won't stop.

DD1 was like that. At 6 months she was getting up anywhere from 2-4 times a night and it could take up to 2 hours to get her back down. So at 6 months we did some sleep training. It helped get her down to just getting up 1-2 times a night. She didn't sttn til she was 1. I still had a 3rd :-) Hang in there! It is tough.

  • Ugghhhh this is us too. Up every hour and LO is almost 6 mo. Was only getting up once a night at four mo. When does it end??!!
  • Same here. And he eats every time. But at least he's quick and goes back to sleep. I've noticed at around 5/6am he doesn't eat as well so I'm going to try to not feed him first and maybe just rock him a bit. I've tried that before but I end up rocking him. Getting him to sleep. He sleeps for 15 min and then wakes up again. So he's legit hungry. But ya. It's exhausting. I'm hoping once he starts solids at 6m it helps him sleep a little longer. His longest stretch is 2.5hrs
  • Yep , this, although sometimes he teases us by only waking up 3x. A family member keeps insisting to us that it's not normal because he heard all babies sleep through the night after 12lbs (his happened to do this; well good for him). It's makes me stabby...

  • Yep.

We just went through two weeks solid of LO being up 6-8 times a night. He's doing a little better in the last few days; now it's 4-5 times a night.

@Readyornot12345, the good news/bad news is that it's completely normal and many babies this age sleep like shit. Unfortunately that isn't really common knowledge and ends up being a brutal surprise for FTMs whose babies fall into this category (as both of mine have).

Hey, this sounds like our baby. I wish I had a kid that would fuss and then settle, but no, it's fussing --> crying --> screaming coughing and puking. Learned the hard way : (
