Nbr: rhubarb

I have a very well growing hearty rhubarb plant in my garden. I don't know what to so with it. I've been giving it to my neighbor each season. Today he asked me if I mind if he just digs up the whole thing and takes it. He makes jam with it. Is there any reason I need to keep it, if he gives me the jam anyway?

    Rhubarb custard pie is AMAZING!

    That's the only thing we use the rhubarb for. I want to get a new plant. Our old plant is in a bad spot.

    My parents used to have a rhubarb plant and I ate it raw dipped in sugar.

    well if i wasn't on the sugar detox challenge, i would've tried it....neighbor asked yesterday if we could have it....can i make him wait a month to decide? lol. how much do you eat at a time? rhubarb always grosses me out bc it looks like celery, and i'm not a fan of celery. i don't even *really* like the jam he makes, i just eat it cause i have no self control.

    it's not that rhubarb itself grosses me out, just the idea of it. i'm too scared to try it lol. i want to at least give it a chance before i give it all away. i will take a bite of it today and see if i like it.

    To me Rhubarb tastes like apples. A little sour which is why I think people dip it in sugar. My MIL also makes Rhubarb bars. Also very good.

    I have had it both ways, but my fave is with tiny little pieces of rhubarb...that way you get the sweet icecream with a little tart piece of rhubarb. Delicious!!

    I just googled "savory rhubarb recipes" and got some hits. You should check and see if there are any you like. I bet it could go in a soup or stew.
  • You could roast it w/ some herbs then put it on a baguette w/ goat cheese or Gorgonzola and make bruschetta

    Oh, it's good.  Also sometimes I'd just heat the strawberries, rhubarb, and sugar to test on the stovetop til it thickens, then use it as a sauce over ice cream.

    Well, at least not that I've ever figured out.  It has to have sugar added or it's too bitter.  But this probably doesn't make it any worse for you than fruits that have all that sugar naturally.
