Cloth Diapering

Baby Wearing

This is slightly off topic but I don't know where else to ask:
Does anyone know a good way to make a simple and comfortable baby wrap? I have an ergo carrier but I would love something that keeps my baby snug up to me for some skin to skin while he is younger.

TIA!

  • Oh yeah, the T-shirt Ktan thing is cool. Not the best for when they are bigger than 15lbs though. I'm a big woven wrap gal though. Those aren't cheap though, but can be used until you stop babywearing!

  • I'm in love with my woven wrap. I do like my ktan, too. It claims to go to 35 pounds but there's no way. It's definitely more like fifteen and maybe even less than that.

  • The Bump also has an "Attachment Parenting" board, lots of babywearers there too :)

Woven wraps are awesome.  They can carry from newborn all the way through to toddler and preschoolers.  They can be a bit pricey, but if you do some research, you can get one for a good price.  I just got a new Hoppediz for 84 including shipping.  You might check facebook or google to see if your area has a babywearing group.  Often the ladies will let you try their carriers and show you different wraps, etc.  Ours has a lending library, which is awesome because you can check out a carrier for a week and se if you like it.  I also second the Attachment Parenting board.  There's a mam there- NCBelle, I believe, who is super-savvy about all things babywearing and she has a great site called Becoming Mamas where she reviews a lot of carriers and gives great starting info on babywearing.

  • There are tutorials online to DIY a non stretchy wrap too.
  • Thank you all! I will definitely be checking out the blogs and tutorials. Time to do some some baby wearing research!
  • I still use my ktan on a regular basis. It's so easy! My lo is almost 11 months and 16 or so lbs.

I just bought a maya wrap and it's a PITA! I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

  • Your fitted t shirt size is a good rule if thumb. If in doubt size down.

The maya wraps do have a little bit if a learning curve but once you get then figured out they're easy. Right now I actually think my woven wrap is easier, though, and it's waaaaay more comfortable.

  • I'm 5,7" and around 180 pounds. Size 12-14 and I have a medium ktan, and it's allllllmost too big. Fwiw.

  • Yeah, I sized down with the original ktan because it stretches.

I also have a ktan breeze and went with the recommended size, because it doesn't stretch as much because of the mesh.

If you've got a store that sells them I'd Def go in and try one on.
