okay today freaking sucks ::UPDATED::

UPDATE: okay I ran over there with the cleaning solution, & it sucked but my mom & I were able to get the earring back in.  Poor thing.  I think if we had needed to re-pierce I probably wouldn't have done it.  Hopefully they don't come out again!  Also I looked at the monitor & it's definitely not a power issue, I think it legit has something wrong with it & we'll have to try & get it replaced, which sucks.  The receiver unit comes on but just says "out of range" & there is no sound or anything.  So weird, it was working fine last week when it was used last.  I'll have to figure out about contacting the manufacturer tonight when I get home.

OP:  Ugh.  Shortly after I drop LO off at my mom's this morning she called to tell me that the video monitor I always bring isn't working at all for some reason, & there is not even any sound coming from it, no matter what she tried.  I felt bad & was frustrated because I know that is going to make the day a pain for her having to run down the hall to check on LO in her crib all the time, plus I'm annoyed about having to deal with the manufacturer about why it's not working all of a sudden, which might take time for them to get me a new one if that's what needs to happen.

THEN just a few minutes ago she called & was SO upset, almost crying, & said that LO's earring, (we just got her ears pierced yesterday!) came out somehow while she was changing her, & she tried but couldn't get it back in.  Dude, this sucks.  I was so happy when the piercing was over, & was telling LO yay we never have to do this again!!  And now I'm just really irritated with the whole situation, & really hoping the ear doesn't get infected, & that we can get the earring back in w/out re-piercing...UGH!!  Once the place that did it opens I'm going to be calling them, & as soon as LO wakes up from her nap I'm leaving work to go deal with this, I don't want to wait & it get infected or close up if we can avoid that.  Btw I'm not mad at my mom, poor thing I think was traumatized, I'm just super frustrated that this all happened today.  :(

Oh and disclaimer, please don't debate me about the ear piercing, I know people have different views but that is not what this is about.  I'm just so sad that LO has to deal with this complication. :(

  • Check to see if the plug she plugged the monitor into is on a GFCI breaker. It may be that no power is going to that plug and you need to reset the breaker. Have her test a lamp or something else on that plug.

Sorry your day is going crummy.

Ugh! I'm sorry your day is going so rough. I hope LO's ear is okay! Poor thing :(
  • That sucks about the monitor...I agree with making sure the little button is pushed! Never know the name of it. :) And this is not debating, but since the earring came out why not just take them out? It might be a sign.

that's a good idea, I should check that when I go over there.  I really hope it's something silly like that rather than an issue with the product.

aww. Well I'd hate to have had her go through that yesterday for nothing.  I just really don't want to do that.  I talked to the people at the store once they opened, & they said if I get to it soon I should be able to get it in before it closes, if I use the cleaning solution they gave me to get it wet which should make it easier to get in.  I hope it works!
  • She still may be traumatized from yesterday if you take her back this soon afterwards :/..why not take the other one out and wait til she's a little older to get them done? This happened to me when I was little..my mom took me to get them pierced..but one came out and she said I wouldn't let them touch me again until I was much older and didn't freak out. Hopefully your LO's ear is ok and you figure out what's going on with your monitor!
  • I'm not sure I could get my 9 year old to ever go back and she got them done in December. :) she STILL talks about it.

Make sure they used the lock back ones.

yeah my mom was saying something about this, I wonder if they even still do those.  The ones we got were from the special case for first time piercings, but they did not have a lock back.

I'm sorry you are dealing with all this. I hope lo's ear is ok.

I've been debating getting DD's done (it's tradition in my family) but I look at her little ears and have second thoughts. Was your DD upset when she had it done?

@LP0198, yeah it sucked, it was kinda like getting shots.  The one consolation I had in my mind (& was telling LO, lol) was yay she will never have to do this again!  And then today happened which is why I was so upset, I really didn't want her to have to go through that again.  Thankfully we got it in & didn't have to get it re-pierced.  I have to say though, they are insanely cute!  I got mine pierced as a baby & am glad I didn't have to do it as an older kid, I think that would almost be more traumatic.

Thanks @jordanm24‌ & @Tanisha417‌ for the feedback. I always intended to do it but I obviously don't want her to be upset or hurt her. I had mine done as a baby and loved having earrings as a little girl. There is a ped nearby that does it so at least it's a doctor's office.

  • Glad you were able to get the earing back in. A few days after doing my LO I was changing her and I picked her up and saw the back was on the couch. Luckily her earing didn't come out because putting the back on was stressful enough!
  • What monitor do you have? Mine did the same thing and my mom and I were able to fix it!
@lauraluara, it is a summer monitor.  Actually, amazingly my dad did some crazy stuff to "sinc" the monitor with the camera unit again, & it is working now!!  I was insanely happy, I would've never figured that out!
