Pumping starting at 6 months

Hi all!
My LO is 6 1/2 months and I EBF, he has never taken a bottle. I would like to start pumping and build a little stash to practice bottles with for the rare occasions where I will be unable to be with him at feeding times (weddings this summer).

I tried to pump the other day after feeding on one side during his nap, and only got about a half ounce out of the other side. Does anyone have suggestions how to build a stash so late in the game? Thanks so much!

It takes a little while to get used to the pump. The first 3 times I pumped i got nothing. After that I would get about 0.5oz to 1oz total. I think that's a normal amount when you pump in addition to feeding LO. So pick one time a day to pump and pump for 15min even if you get nothing. After 1-2 weeks you should have enough milk saved up for a full feeding

Thank you so much ladies, I'm obviously clueless about this, and googling was not helpful!

I'm glad to know this is a normal amount to pump. I would honestly rather not do a bottle, but he is not eating enough solids yet to wait for me if I'm gone several hours. I honestly would rather not leave him for that long, but it's not am option to bring him to the weddings - but I may just leave to feed and come back!
  • Also, FWIW, DD was eating barely any solids at 6 1/2 months, but by 8, was eating much more regularly, and now eats like it's her job, so a lot can change, and quickly. He may be fine by the time summer rolls around (not sure when the weddings are?).

@gulickr‌ That makes me feel better, my DS has very little interest in solids right now. The first wedding isn't until the end of June - he will be just 8 months, so maybe by then we will be ok!

Kind of is her job right? This made me giggle. :-)
