No tricks here. I worried about it for months but DD acted like it was no big deal. We moved her from a crib straight to a full size bed. She slept just as well as she did in the crib and waits for us to come get her in the morning. Hope your experience is painless!

We transitioned J from our bed to her "big girl bed". She was 14mo and been sleeping in her bed for 2 months!
Her big girl bed is a twin mattress on the floor. We put it in her room for about a month before we attempted to get her to sleep in it.
Sometimes she ends up on the floor, but her room is carpeted and I put a blanket just off her mattress.
Good luck!!

TTC #2 - back to the RE, treatment started 12/2014.
I don't have any tips or tricks but we just transitioned DS to a twin bed 2 weeks ago and he'll be 3 in July.
We hyped up the transition by taking him to pick out new bed sheets and blankets. He chose monsters university. That really helped because he was super excited about them.
He has fallen off his bed a few times so I recommend a rail or having the bed close to the ground.
For the most part, we wait for DS1 to tell us when he is ready for changes like this. He recently started saying he wanted to sleep in a big boy bed, so we just transitioned him to a toddler bed over the weekend (his crib is convertible and will later be turned into a full size bed). We let him pick out a new bedding set last week (he picked Toy Story) and he was really excited about it.
We thought making the change over the weekend would be the best idea (in case there were any hiccups), so he helped DH convert his crib and change his bedding on Friday. We kept the rest of his nighttime routine the same, and he hasn't had any problems. I was a little worried that he would get out of bed early in the AM, but he hasn't so far. He still waits for us to come and get him. Good luck! I hope it goes smoothly for you.
A friend of mine stuck pool noodles inside the fitted sheet to make a little barrier on each side of the bed, making it a little harder for her son to fall out of bed. No tips on transitioning as I plan to keep E in her crib till at least college. But I thought the pool noodle trick was pretty cool.

With both of my older ones it went well. We also waited until 3 - DS had just turned 3, DD was almost 3.5! By then they really understand, I think. We talked about the "rules" of the big girl/boy bed for a while before they moved - stay in your bed until mommy or daddy comes to get you, etc. We also created at reward chart for my DD - she was always running around the room. She would get a star on her chart if she stayed in her bed. 5 days of stars and she got a treat. She LOVED that! GL!
